Partridge shooting in Northumberland

Partridge shooting in Northumberland

The partridge shooting season runs from 1st September to 1st February. The partridges most commonly shot across Europe are red-legged partridges, otherwise known as french partridges.

About partridge shooting in northumberland

Driven partridge shooting over stubble fields in September offers some of the most fantastic sport available. Although you'll rarely find days of English partridge shooting, the french partridge has provided a very reliable alternative. Many shoots across the UK will shoot partridge throughout the season and many bags after October will consist of both pheasant and partridge.

Ellingham Sporting ltdBGA ASSURED

Northumberland, United Kingdom

Ellingham Shoot is run over 5,000 acres of mixed woodland, arable and moorland. We have separate partridge beats with some fantastic views of the Northumbrian coast and Cheviot Hills. The partridge ground is made up of bracken, heather and white ground with over 15 different drives including several where the guns stand in gullies to be tested by very fast birds coming over ridges or hedges. We also have some drives with high birds, in particular the Brockdam Banks and the Wandylaw Hill drives. These two drives often have a ratio of 8/1 while our other drives are usually 5/1. The pheasant drives are a mix of game cover and woods, some of which give some excellent sport throughout the season. We have mixed pheasant, partridge and duck drives. The majority of our days are 200+driven partridge, pheasant and duck but we also run small boundary days at very good rates for 50+ bird days which might suit smaller parties. We have nearly 50 different drives and have the scope to offer sport to suit novice and experienced guns alike. Ellingham is a popular shoot with many regular guns and a great atmosphere. We welcome parties of up to 10 guns and can arrange breakfast, lunch and evening meals. The meeting place is The Packhorse Inn, a country pub in the village of Ellingham which offers food and accommodation. For guns travelling from further afield the area offers a wide range of suitable shoot-friendly hotels. This is a lovely part of north Northumberland. Lordenshaws Shoot Day 2021 - https://youtu.be/Pz8CVsTxgsU The Lordenshaws Estate is undoubtedly one of the most exciting up and coming shoots in the north of England. Located on the eastern edge of the Northumberland National Park, the Estate benefits from a variety of deep gills, mature woodlands and sloping topography, which enables the presentation of exceptional quality pheasants and partridges. The birds are capable of challenging the very best of teams. The Estate is also able to offer a variety of walked up and mini driven shooting, which can either be taken in combination with a driven day, or as a standalone booking. DRIVEN SHOOTING The 2,800 acre low ground shoot comprises 12 main drives, ranging from moorland edge partridges on drives such as the renowned “Railway” to tall pheasants climbing high over teams stood in the river gill below on the “Stepping Stones” drive, which is now a firm favourite amongst teams of guns. On arrival at the Estate, teams will meet at the Estate’s shoot room. Situated on the moorland edge, the shoot room overlooks the picturesque Lordenshaws valley, and is equipped with a large dining table and roaring wood burner, making it the ideal location for hosting teams throughout the season. Guests will be greeted with tea, coffee and bacon rolls on their arrival and once all members of the shooting party have arrived, the Estate host will give a detailed safety briefing before leading off for the days shooting. Days on the Estate usually consist of four or five drives, which are best suited to a team of eight guns (nine can be accommodated if required). A substantial elevenses break is usually taken in the field after the second drive, with lunch being served at the shoot room either during or at the end of the day. The exact arrangements and timings for the day can be tailored to suit the guns requirements. Driven Days are available throughout the season with target bags ranging from 120-250 birds per day, at a cost of £47.50 plus VAT per bird, which includes full hospitality for the guns. MINI DRIVEN / WALKED UP SHOOTING In addition to the driven offering at Lordenshaws, a selection of smaller mini driven/ walked up days are also available, with the focus of these being on some of the hedgerows and spinneys which lie slightly further out from the heart of the shoot. Guns will find themselves shooting a combination of walked up birds, flushing from cover as the team walks the ground, and driven birds, where guns will be strategically placed whilst areas of thicker cover are pushed out to the guns. These days often provide some of the most rewarding sport, given the variety of game on offer, and also allows the guns to see much more of the Estate, enabling them to enjoy the full splendour of their surroundings. Bags on these days often include a combination of pheasant, partridge, duck, pigeon, snipe, woodcock and rabbit. Whilst the Estate’s shoot room and facilities are available to the guests throughout the day, teams are to provide their own catering. Mini Driven/Walked Up Days are available throughout the season with target bags of 40-60 birds per day, at the cost of £37.50 plus VAT per bird. LOCAL ACCOMMODATION There are a range of accommodation options in the local area, ranging from exclusive private houses to local hotels and pubs.
