Ellingham Shoot is run over 5,000 acres of mixed woodland, arable and moorland. We have separate partridge beats with some fantastic views of the Northumbrian coast and Cheviot Hills. The partridge ground is made up of bracken, heather and white ground with over 15 different drives including several where the guns stand in gullies to be tested by very fast birds coming over ridges or hedges. We also have some drives with high birds, in particular the Brockdam Banks and the Wandylaw Hill drives. These two drives often have a ratio of 8/1 while our other drives are usually 5/1. The pheasant drives are a mix of game cover and woods, some of which give some excellent sport throughout the season. We have mixed pheasant, partridge and duck drives. The majority of our days are 200+driven partridge, pheasant and duck but we also run small boundary days at very good rates for 50+ bird days which might suit smaller parties.
We have nearly 50 different drives and have the scope to offer sport to suit novice and experienced guns alike. Ellingham is a popular shoot with many regular guns and a great atmosphere. We welcome parties of up to 10 guns and can arrange breakfast, lunch and evening meals. The meeting place is The Packhorse Inn, a country pub in the village of Ellingham which offers food and accommodation. For guns travelling from further afield the area offers a wide range of suitable shoot-friendly hotels. This is a lovely part of north Northumberland. To find out more details please give Terry a call.

Hospitality

Our shoot is renown for its warm hospitality and excellent catering. Breakfast is available at the Pub but we do very special elevenses and lunches in the field. After the shoot the pub offers a warm friendly place to relax at the end of the day.

About the hosts

Terry Mather has 35 years’ experience as a gamekeeper. He has been head keeper at Ellingham Shoot for over 20 years and held the shooting rights since 2016. The success of the shoot can be primarily attributed to the expertise and hard work put in by Terry over this time.

I have shot with Terry Mather for more years than I care to remember. My team and I keep returning, some from as far afield as Norfolk, Dumfries and the wilds of Scotland. We always have an enjoyable day with excellent shooting. I would recommend this shoot to anyone, we have always been well looked after and Terry's team are all truly professional (especially the pickers up).

As a team we have visited Ellingham shoot and the Blawearie shoot over some years. We have seen the shoot grow and become the shoot it is today. Terry and his better half Fon look after the guys like friends, it is a joy to visit. The Pack Horse I would recommend for Breakfast and après shoot. It is a rather fun pub, open fire, great hosts, may one day soon get Guinness on draft fingers crossed. The team of under keepers, picker uppers and beaters all enjoy some great crack at elevenses, lunch and après (obviously after bedding up their dogs). Yes a great day if you want to come to Gods country and enjoy Northumberland. Steve
