Partridge shooting

The partridge shooting season runs from 1st September to 1st February. The partridges most commonly shot across Europe are red-legged partridges, otherwise known as french partridges.

About partridge shooting

Driven partridge shooting over stubble fields in September offers some of the most fantastic sport available. Although you'll rarely find days of English partridge shooting, the french partridge has provided a very reliable alternative. Many shoots across the UK will shoot partridge throughout the season and many bags after October will consist of both pheasant and partridge.

Mountgarret Shoot

North Yorkshire, United Kingdom

Introduction to The Mountgarret Shoot: 2026-2027 Season Edd Morrison and his wife Poppy have now taken on the Lease from Frank Boddy. Edd also owns and runs Dalesport Sporting Agency Selling Grouse days on 30 + Moors across Northern England he also jointly runs S.M. Bolton Ghyll and is very much looking forward to this coming season. The Mountgarret Shoot is made up of two North Yorkshire Estates. Mountgarret Estate covers 1,900 acres and Nidd Estate 2,100 acres. Both Estates combined total area of 4,000 acres and run together just north of Harrogate in North Yorkshire. The land is best described as rolling countryside with woodlands established over many years to produce quality sporting birds. These are complimented by areas of well-placed wild bird cover which produce a variety of drives. Our young team of Keepers led by Callum McIntosh who is assisted by Tom Hesmondhalgh and Fred Kay have shown what can be achieved with hard work and dedication. In addition, we have an excellent team of beaters and pickers up who have shown they can present some testing birds. To ensure your days are run as smoothly as possible our Shoot Hosts, Edd Morrison, Olly Rycroft, Stuart Thompson and Debbie Clayton make up our team on the ground. Finally, everything is co-ordinated by Edd’s resilient and patient Administrator Diane Russell (Rusty) who is always there to help. We offer days to remember with a combination of testing birds in convivial company with delicious meals and refreshments. All set in Gods own County, our beautiful North Yorkshire Countryside. A day with The Mountgarret Shoot is “Just how a Proper Driven Shoot Day should be” or should I say, this is what we always try to achieve! There is no doubt that driven game shooting is increasing in popularity and am delighted to see more ladies and young people are taking up our sport. So, what is different about our Shoot. Although we welcome full teams, we particularly cater for single guns and small parties. We encourage novice guns to join us providing they have had some clay shooting experience and have an experienced shot or one of our loader/instructors standing with them. We would be disappointed if an individual gun joining us for the first time did not feel at home within a few minutes of arrival. Planning the days is a challenge as everyone seems to have quite different priorities. We plan each shoot day just how we would expect it to be if we were in the line of guns. The following is how we would hope our shoot days will be but as always anything can happen! For the shoot to be hosted in a relaxed no rush manner with refreshments throughout the day. To shoot with a convivial team of like-minded people. Once on your peg not to have to wait ages for the birds to show. A mix of pheasant and partridge achieves this. To be presented with testing birds but not impossible, spread over the whole line of guns on each drive. To have fellow guns who are selective and respect their neighbour’s birds. To be able to work dogs at the end of a drive without the birds already being picked by the pickers up. To have a tasty lunch with decent wine not cheap plonk! There are many other aspects of a shoot day but if we can achieve these, we are sure everyone will go away happy. We hope this gives you an idea of what to expect. However, we must never forget we are always faced with our unpredictable weather and wild creatures. So, some days will certainly be better than others.

Blankney Estate

Lincolnshire, United Kingdom

The Blankney Estate is a privately owned estate of approximately 12,000 acres, and is home to a renowned game shoots.

Leigh Manor Shoot

Shropshire, United Kingdom

Leigh Manor is a sporting gem set in a picturesque landscape nestled under the famous Callow landmark, a circular wood which can be seen for miles on the Shropshire-Powys border. The topography just spells high pheasants with the estate on the side of the Rea Valley with undulating slopes and dingles cut deep into the valley side to provide stunning scenery and views across the Shropshire plains below with the top of the shoot being over 1100 feet above sea level. The woods have undoubtedly been laid out for shooting by David Staceys's family who have owned the estate since 1763\. When Clive of India acquired it for his younger brother William, it then passed down the female line to the Bridgemans and then from the 2nd Viscount Bridgeman to his grandson David. They estate cover some 2,000 acres west of Minsterley and the opposite side of the valley from Long mountain. Until 2002 this was a private shoot reserved for a privileged few. New management has seen the introduction of gamecovers taking advantage of steep slopes and valleys provided by the exciting terrain. More recently partridge have been released on the Whitsburn valley creating the draw dropping drive Luckley Point where varying targets cross the valley from every angle. Other classic high pheasant drives include High Coppice, The Manor, Lordstone Wood, Hope Hall, Crabtree Gamecover, Upper Luckley, The Roman Fort and Pennies from Heaven. If assistance is required for you to get to your peg there is an All Terrain Vehicle available.
