THE ESTATE
Chipchase Castle is a private family home set in stunning landscape with more than 3,000 acres of parkland, farmland, woodland and lakes. The Castle is steeped in history, dating back to the early thirteenth century, and its extension is described by experts as one of the finest Jacobean houses in the country. Chipchase is currently owned by Jonathan Elkington and has been in the family for 8 generations.
On the sporting front Chipchase is able to offer top quality salmon and sea trout fishing, an exceptional pheasant shoot and deer stalking.
The beautiful landscape lends itself to predominately medium to high pheasant shooting, which is in the top drawer of driven pheasant shoots in Northumberland. Although the Estate specialises in pheasant shooting, a typical day will also see wild partridge, snipe, woodcock, and duck; every drive at Chipchase offers a diverse shooting experience from snap shooting in gullies to shooting high birds out of woods or game crops.
THE EXPERIENCE
Shooting at Chipchase Castle is a unique experience, with the day starting with coffee in the castle at 9.10am whilst we conduct a short safety briefing. Once pegs are drawn, the team jumps into a Gaz66, Chipchase’s Russian military vehicle, which ferries the team around the estate during the day. We do 4, 5, or 6 drives depending on the size of the day. The season starts at the beginning of October with 300 bird days. As the season goes on we do smaller days with January days typically shooting 150-200.
The day is well organised and structured with most teams preferring to stop for a hearty lunch, which is served in the dining room of the Castle. Each year, we are lucky to welcome back repeat customers who travel from all over the world to shoot with us during the season.
