THE ESTATE
Chipchase Castle is a private family home set in stunning landscape with more than 3,000 acres of parkland, farmland, woodland and lakes. The Castle is steeped in history, dating back to the early thirteenth century, and its extension is described by experts as one of the finest Jacobean houses in the country. Chipchase is currently owned by Jonathan Elkington and has been in the family for 8 generations.
On the sporting front Chipchase is able to offer top quality salmon and sea trout fishing, an exceptional pheasant shoot and deer stalking.
The beautiful landscape lends itself to predominately medium to high pheasant shooting, which is in the top drawer of driven pheasant shoots in Northumberland. Although the Estate specialises in pheasant shooting, a typical day will also see wild partridge, snipe, woodcock, and duck; every drive at Chipchase offers a diverse shooting experience from snap shooting in gullies to shooting high birds out of woods or game crops.
THE EXPERIENCE
Shooting at Chipchase Castle is a unique experience, with the day starting with coffee in the castle at 9.10am whilst we conduct a short safety briefing. Once pegs are drawn, the team jumps into a Gaz66, Chipchase’s Russian military vehicle, which ferries the team around the estate during the day. We do 4, 5, or 6 drives depending on the size of the day. The season starts at the beginning of October with 300 bird days. As the season goes on we do smaller days with January days typically shooting 150-200.
The day is well organised and structured with most teams preferring to stop for a hearty lunch, which is served in the dining room of the Castle. Each year, we are lucky to welcome back repeat customers who travel from all over the world to shoot with us during the season.
Hospitality
It is possible to stay in the Castle during the shoot, hosted by Jonathan and his wife Zoe. They are helped by a fantastic team who focus on quality food and service to make sure each experience is the best in class. It is possible to shoot two days back to back, and to also fit in a spot of fishing if you’d like a bit of variety to your trip. We have also had some teams utilise other shoots locally while making Chipchase their base.

A superb day's sport. Everything was supremely well organised out in the field and back at the castle. Wonderful lunch, 11sies and afternoon tea. A really friendly and efficient team. Testing birds and some really scenic drives. Couldn't recommend highly enough.

I organised the day for a group of experienced guns and what a great day we had. All involved with the shoot made us most welcome. Lunch in the castle is a must. Tommy our host was excellent. As for the shooting, plenty of quality pheasants from efficiently organised drives. From our first visit this appears to be a very well organised and quality shoot and certainly we will be taking another day.

I am fortunate to be a second generation going to shoot at Chipchase, it has a magical allure that keeps rewarding, with truly excellent sport. The day's shooting is beautifully orchestrated and conducted by Jonathan and his team, set against the stunning backdrop of the castle and God's own Northumberland landscape. I can't recommend this shoot highly enough, superb sport in great comfort and great style.
