The shoot is managed in hand by the family, as it has been for generations. Nestling in the finest rolling Essex countryside, the Shoot is run over the Estate’s principal Audley End beat on some 4000 plus acres of arable farmland; presenting best quality driven pheasant and partridge from both cover and mature woodland, much of it famously laid out in the 18th century by Lancelot “Capability” Brown.
The Estate’s chalk hills rise to almost 360 feet above sea level and present some steepling pheasants. Our high hedges, deliberately encouraged to grow tall, can deliver a pulse racing partridge covey, bursting over the guns to rival the best. A sample of principle drives might include partridge from Green Field and Johns Hill and pheasant from Hatton's Plantation, Brands Hill, Wallis’s Wood and The Oaks. There are many more to choose from and our Gamekeepers will select the right drive for the team and conditions on the day.
On arrival, guests are served coffee and are met by our Shoot Team, including Head Keeper Geoff Garrod and his wife Karen. Substantial elevenses are provided in the field and a splendid lunch, prepared by renowned local chef, Trevor Barwood, is served in the atmospheric Audley End Shoot Room at Home Farm, at the end of the day. A brace of game ready for the oven is offered to all guns to take home.
Efficiently and professionally conducted under the watchful eye of Head Keeper Geoff Garrod, named the Great British Shooting Awards 2020 Gamekeeper of the Year, we endeavour to present a quality, testing day's sport to suit even the most discerning shot. Guns will head home with fond memories to savour and to recount to friends of a famous day at Audley End.
Transport around the shoot is provided in the bespoke green gun bus. Well behaved gundogs are welcome.
