The Terling Estate is privately owned by Lord Rayleigh and his family.
The Estate spreads across the Ter Valley around the Essex villages of Terling and Fairstead.
The shoot comprises over 20 drives across 730 acres of ancient woodland, 360 acres of parkland and river meadows and an extensive area under a Countryside Stewardship Scheme.
The shoot has 3 distinguishable ‘beats’:
A French Partridge beat to the north, around the picturesque hamlet of Fairstead and “Humiliation Valley”.
The Pheasant Northern beat at the north end of the Ter Valley, around Ridley Hall and the ancient woodland known as Sandy Wood.
The Pheasant Park beat at the southern end of the Ter Valley, around Terling Place, Lord Rayleigh’s stately home.
The shoot is run by Lord Rayleigh’s eldest son, alongside the Keeper, Mr James Lodge.
The majority of days are taken by the family and the shoot club, with only 8 days kept for the let market, most of which are taken through repeat business.
Further information, prices and a sample of our contract can be supplied on request.
