Pheasant shooting in Denbighshire

Pheasant shooting in Denbighshire

Wales is undoubtedly home to some of the country’s best high driven pheasant shoots, Bettws Hall’s The Brigands being one of the most well-known around.

About pheasant shooting in denbighshire

Guns travel from across the world to sample what shoots in Wales have to offer and they are rarely disappointed by the high pheasants that are presented. Powys is the most densely populated region when it comes to driven shooting, but high-quality pheasants can be found in all corners, from Snowdonia to the Brecon Beacons. When booking a day, make sure you ask the shoot for a cartridge recommendation as you may need to go down a shot size for these extreme pheasants.

Bodidris Shoot

Denbighshire, United Kingdom

**UNDER NEW MANAGEMENT 2024/25 SEASON** I know that seems to be the case with the Bodidris Shoot most years, but we feel very luck to have been given the chance to take on this amazing piece of the Welsh Landscape to run alongside our longstanding pheasant shoot , the Gwerglas beat on the Rhug Estate. We've historically run days averaging around the 100 bird mark with a strong family feel and are looking to bring a similar feel to the days that we will be hosting at Bodidris. Naturally by expanding our ground, it has left room to introduce some new faces to our supportive, friendly syndicate, but we know that the best way to meet those potential new faces is to sell some team days and individual pegs which is what brings me to writing this on Guns on Pegs today. If relaxed days with no pressure, no judgement and a good group of people sound like your thing then give me a call or drop me a message, I'll be happy to answer any questions you might have. Thomas Dowell (son of the technophobe shoot captain, Gwyn)

Corwen Forest

Denbighshire, United Kingdom

Corwen Forest is a well-established pheasant shoot (with a few partridges) located near Corwen in North Wales. The shoot is set in rolling hills and conifer woodland with many drives having outstanding views over the Dee Valley. Drives such as Moor, the Bank and Big Rock can provide very high birds, and well located cover crops contribute to a day which may test the ability of even the most experienced of shots. The shoot extends to over 3000 acres and as well as formal driven days there are opportunities for organised walked up days and mini-driven days. Access to most drives is via forestry roads with reasonable walking to pegs. A 4x4 is preferable but, with care, two wheel drive vehicles with good ground clearance can usually cope. A typical driven day starts with bacon rolls and coffee, during which the guns will receive a safety talk and draw pegs. Moving off at around 09:30AM there will be some three drives before refreshments in the field. A further drive or two in the afternoon should see the bag achieved. The day draws to a close with coffee and biscuits or a meal if preferred. Hotel accommodation is available in nearby Llangollen and Corwen. Guns with their own dogs are very welcome.

Denbighshire, United Kingdom

Cwm Shooting Syndicate was established in 1952 and has shot over the ground, which has been in the ownership of the Rowly-Conwy family since the 14th Century, continuously since then. The shoot is conveniently situated off the A55 near St Asaph. The shoot covers approximately 3,000 acres (1200 ha) of land situated on the eastern side of the Vale of Clwyd, lying between Rhuddlan on the north west, Dyserth on the north,  Rhuallt to the south and St Asaph to the south west. The land is mainly arable, but includes a number of woods amounting in aggregate to some 130 acres (53 ha) . There is a number of ponds on the land suitable for accommodating duck. The quarry species is in the main pheasant, but the shoot also puts down a limited number of duck and partridge, and the ground attracts woodcock and there are a couple of snipe bogs. The main drives are a combination of wooded drives on the floor of the Vale and on the eastern border lies the steep wooded side of the Vale, Coed Cwm which provides a number of high bird drives for more challenging shooting. The shoot is informal in nature and there are limited facilities on site. Lunch is taken at a local pub. Transport around the shoot is in Guns' own vehicles, consolidating use where practical in order to minimise vehicle usage. A senior member of the Syndicate will run the day, and his opinion on safety and weather related matters is final. Guns are required to have insurance and have available their shot gun certificates. Non-toxic shot is required if shooting duck. Fibre wad cartridges are required.
