Raehills is an historic sandstone mansion built by James, the 3rd Earl of Hopetoun towards the end of the eighteenth century. It lies between Dumfries and Moffat in south west Scotland and is part of Annandale Estates. The impressive four tiered mansion is said to have been based on an Italian villa seen by the Earl whilst on his Grand Tour. Edinburgh architect Alexander Stevens was commissioned to build the house during the period 1786-92\. Additions were proposed by Stevens in 1809 but eventually built to the designs of William Burn between 1829 and 1834\. It has an impressive colonaded south front and is Grade 1 listed. These days we are able to provide between 150 to 300 bird days. You can have a choice of a variety of pheasant, partridge drives and a challenging duck drive. The estate starts shooting driven partridges from the 1st September and they have developed one of the top shoots in the country with birds flying from a great range of challenging heights and angles. There are now three excellent beats with 24 drives ranging from difficult to the extreme. All beats are situated between the moorland and wooded areas on the Estate with breathtaking scenery and easy access from hill tracks. The high driven partridge shoot at Drumlanrig is renowned amongst the best shots in the land. There are also three principal pheasant beats at Drumlanrig, covering 15,000 acres. Across these beats are 25 exhilarating drives varying from extremely high gliding pheasants on bracken-clad hills, to perfectly positioned game covers and mixed mature woodlands, all situated within spectacular scenery. Here, they can offer some of the best, diverse, top quality pheasant shooting in Scotland and up to a week’s sport can be arranged without covering the same ground twice. The Estate starts to shoot pheasants from late October thus providing mixed days which predominately becomes more pure pheasant days as the season goes on. A variety of shoot days are offered ranging from full, double gun, driven days with loaders to walked-up shooting over dogs. Late season salmon fishing is also available on the River Nith, which meanders through the Estate. There are also plenty of options for accommodation ranging from some magnificent private homes that can be taken on an exclusive basis to some local hotels. For that special occasion, the Castle is also available. The experience of shooting at Drumlanrig is an authentic one combining insight and expertise with more than 700 years of tradition.                                     WELCOME TO KENCARRIG SHOOT Kencarrig shoot and guest house is run by James Kennedy and his partner Margret. James having over 35 years in the shooting field looks after the shooting side of things while Margret looks after the hospitality side. The accomadation is just 5 minutes away from the Solway coast which makes it very convinient for the early morning goose flights on the foreshore. The shoot is about 40 minutes away on the **BUCCLEUCH** estate, with the land surrounding the beautiful **DRUMLANRIG CASTLE**,with a terrain of lowland, roaming hills and valleys. On which we have to offer, mini driven, walk up and rough days.  A day at the kencarrig starts with an early rise which consists of a morning on the foreshore hoping to get them elusive geese, then when the noise rumbling from your belly is too much, you will go back the 5 minute drive to your accommodation where you will be served a breakfast that you will not be disappointed in. When you are ready for road after your feed, you will be brought to the shooting estate. You will have 2-3 drives in the first half of HIGH flying, JAW DROPPING pheasants. There will also be the little rockets that are red legged partridge and crafty woodcock. Then you will be ready for your lunch. After lunch you will have further drives with a bit of walk up (not too much). Then you will be brought for a duck flight where you might even get a crack at some geese. After your day on the shoot, you will be treated to a fantastic dinner which again will not leave you disappointed. After dinner The local is only 5 minutes in the road if you require to quench that thirst.                 We offer 2 day and 3 day packages and some let days. Minimum amount of guns on the shoot is 6 but individual guns are welcome to join other guns to make up parties of 6.  A 2 day package consists of 3 nights B&B, 2 evening meals, 2 mornings on the foreshore(geese). 2 mini driven, walk up 30 bird days, evening duck flight, packed lunch included. the price is **£500** per gun. The 3 day package is the same as above just add 1 to everything bar ducks **£700**. Goose decoying extra when availible. Walk up days over pointers availble from end of november until end of season. We stand 8-10 guns and shoot a mixed bag of duck, pheasant and partridge along with snipe, teal and wigeon. Guns are very welcome to bring dogs. All drives are pegged, two drives have back guns and once drive benefits from two walking guns. Days are 100-125 birds at £40 per bird and guns are welcome to take home as much game as they like. Some drives are duck, some are pheasant with the odd partridge other drives are mixed. We have driven snipe opportunities on three separate bogs. Although we have ten drives the shoot is compact and we walk around the shoot, we aim to shoot five or six drives a day unless we have hit the bag before this.
