Partridge shooting in Hertfordshire

Partridge shooting in Hertfordshire

The partridge shooting in East Anglia may be some of the most exciting that the UK has to offer.

About partridge shooting in hertfordshire

The landscape of Cambridgeshire, Suffolk and Norfolk may seem at first glance like unprepossessing shooting country, but don’t be fooled. A classic East Anglian partridge drive sees coveys come whirring over belts of trees in a flurry of wings. Upon seeing the line of guns they ‘starburst’, scattering like the sparks of a firework, presenting fast, challenging, if not stratospheric targets – you will need to keep your wits about you and have sharp reactions.

Highfield Shoot

Hertfordshire, United Kingdom

Highfield Farm shoot has been established about 15 years although not with the same landowner or shoot manager. The shoot comprises some 1500 acres mainly arable with about eight mixed wood areas and is split between two farms one east of Bassingbourn and the other west, both are well laid out to make the most of the prevailing wind direction. Our keeper Jake is well suited to the job with some 20yrs experience under his belt, the shoot is mainly pheasant with a few partridge to add some testing sport over the many hedgerows that dissect the shoot. Highfields is situated a few miles north of Royston set in some of north Hertfordshires best rolling countryside and not too far from the main A1 motorway and the M11 motorway. Each shoot day starts with light refreshments followed by a few drinks and light nibbles for elevensies , a two course lunch is provided and tea to end the day on, there are five to six drives on the day depending on the guns ability and wind conditions. The shoot has a full time syndicate shooting six days per season, last years average shot to bird ratio was six to one. Gundogs are very welcome. Ladies that wish to shoot or accompany their partners are more than welcome. Basic toilet facilities are available, we like to think that we are a friendly shoot and welcome beginners and the more experienced shot.

Walnut Tree Shoot

Hertfordshire, United Kingdom

The Walnut Tree shoot has been established for in excess of 40 years, traditionally run as a private shoot and more latterly a syndicate shoot. The rare opportunity has arisen for teams of guns to take occasional days on the shoot. Our season starts in October and the days available are generally Saturdays. We are located only 30 minutes north of London, 10 minutes from Hitchin train station with easy links from the A1 and M1. Bags range will be between 150 – 200 birds depending on the teams aspirations. The guns are transported around on a shoot day by a custom build utilitarian gun bus, which provides a comfortable and warm ride as well as plenty of storage for kit and ammunition. We are fortunate to have a regular, local and cheery beating team who take pride in delivering quality drives whilst enjoying the beautiful Hertfordshire countryside which we feel is fundamental to what we do best. We are able to offer premium accommodation, subject to availability to teams of guns nearby at the magnificent Redcoats Farmhouse as well as transport to and from. Other accommodation is also available nearby.

Brook Park ShootBGA ASSURED

Hertfordshire, United Kingdom

Brook Park Shoot is a family run business located in South Hertfordshire. Our season starts in September with some exciting partridge days before we proceed on to the mixed bird days consisting of partridges, pheasants, ducks and the occasional guinea fowl. The minimum bird days offered are 200 but we can show you up to 400 birds as a double gun day if desired. The size of the day will determine how many drives are provided and weather conditions will influence the location of each drive. We are privileged enough to have a choice of drives to mix and match so even if the weather turns, we should still be able to show you a great day. Following breakfast and a briefing from the Shoot Manager, guns are transported around the estate on the Brook Park Shoot Gun Bus. Mid-morning refreshments are served between drives in the beautiful countryside. The Shoot Captain and the Gamekeeper review the shooting throughout and adjust the drives as necessary to be able to offer the guns the best day possible. A delicious meal is served back in the shoot reception room where the guns conclude their day..
