About grouse shooting in aberdeenshire

Driven grouse shooting not only offers a huge challenge with grouse reaching vast speeds, it takes place in some of the World's most stunning scenery. The Red Grouse is only found in the UK and offers a unique form of shooting. The Lammermuir Hills and Borders offer the greatest density of driven estates and the further north you travel, through The Cairngorms for example, the shooting becomes wilder with more walked up grouse days over pointers.

Bognie Shoot

Aberdeenshire, United Kingdom

The **BOGNIE** shoot is located at Forgue in rural Aberdeenshire, and is based on a private family estate, who can trace their links to the land back to the 12th century. The shoot covers approximately 13,000 acres, of rolling farmland and woods and provides a variety of excellent driven pheasant and partridge shooting along with some duck and walked up shooting. The shoot have over 45 acres of game crops and over 20 named drives. The drives are many and varied emanating from either cover crops or woodland. The addition of partridges to some of our signature drives has proved to be a huge success, with guns having to contend with rocketing pheasants and jinking partridge on the same drive. Driven days start with a warm welcome, coffee and bacon rolls and a briefing for the team. Refreshments and lunch are provided during the day. A typical day will normally consist of four or five drives with time between drives to chat to friends and relax. The shoot caters for corporate parties, private roving syndicates, small parties and individual guns, as well as providing walked up days. We also have a syndicate on the shoot where occasionally guns or half guns become available. We have been running the shoot for over 30 years and our aim is to provide a relaxed safe and thoroughly enjoyable days shooting for our guests. Guns are welcome to bring their dogs and if required we can help with arrangements for overnight accommodation for travelling parties

Invercauld Estate

Aberdeenshire, United Kingdom

Siuated in the heart of Royal Deeside near Balmoral, Invercauld Estate includes some of the most extensive and finest driven and walked up grouse shooting and red deer stalking in Scotland in an abolutely stunning setting. A mixed highland estate, Invercauld stretches from the east of Ballater to Braemar and southwards into upland Perthshire north of Blairgowrie. Shooting on Invercauld has previously been taken by King George VI and Queen Elizabeth II and a select amount of shooting is now available each year for let. The Estate includes eight beats with a wide variety of grouse shooting and stalking to test both the beginner and experienced shot. Fishing is also sometimes available on the River Dee. The elevation of the estate rises from 200m above sea level to over 1,190m encapsulating low lying rolling moorland to high craggy peeks with many tremendous views of parts of Aberdeenshire, Perthshire, Moray, Highland and Angus. Granny scots pines and naturally regenerated birch combine with heather, gassland and the rich variety of natural fauna and flora to create an exceptional environment. The clean air of Invercauld drew Robert Louis Stevenson from Edinburgh to Braemar in 1881 where he wrote part of Treasure Island. Today there is still much to see and do around Braemar with several places to eat and stay and an array of shops. Driven grouse can be for up to 9 guns (depending upon the beat) and walked up days can be commonly for 15 brace depending on location, time of year and guns' experience. Stalking is always with an experienced stalker and on some beats ponies are used to return stags to the larder.
