Perthshire, United Kingdom
Borland & Whitehouse Shoot offers challenging and dramatic shooting surrounded by stunning hills, lochs and mountains. One of the first shoots in the UK some 25 years ago to develop shooting high pheasants off heather tops, using hand feeding techniques. This shoot is a hidden gem 90 minutes from Edinburgh and Aberdeen airports and 45 minutes from Dundee, and 35 minutes north of Perth.
We offer very flexible packages and are always delighted for shoot party leaders to come and inspect the shoot. Just post an enquiry and we can meet up or discuss your requirements.
Our shoot produces some of the finest early shooting in the UK with tremendous early pheasant days in October and November, often off heather tops and banks. This is because we rear and release our birds more than a month earlier than the majority of shoots, delivering great early shooting. Our focus is on challenging guns capabilities in spectacular scenery. As the season progresses into December and January we mix heather bank drives with woodland drives out of sitka and mixed spruce.
The shoot is located 12 miles north of Blaigowrie, 28 miles north of Perth and around 70 miles from Edinburgh Airport. Dundee Airport is about 20 miles or 40 minutes away. The shoot sits on the boundary between Perthshire and the Angus Glens, in the beautiful glen of Glenshee. The shoot lies about 1 mile east of the main A93 road up to the Spittal of Glenshee, starting at an altitude of 1000 feet, with ground ranging up to 2,400 feet on the Estate.
For those travelling from afar and wanting two days shooting, or some walked up before your main day this can easily be arranged.
A house is also available, the Whitehouse and this and its cottage next door can sleep up to 12 people in comfort. There are also nearby well known hotels, The Bridge of Cally Hotel, Dalmunzie House Hotel, Kinloch House (Blairgowrie), Lands of Loyal Hotel(Alyth), and Meikleour Arms, Fife Arms Hotel (Braemar) all of which offer good accommodation to suit a range of budgets.
The shoot was listed in 2018/19 in Brian Martin's book as one of "The Great Shoots", one of only around 10 selected in Scotland. One of our drives, 'The Crags' is the front cover of the November 2013 Field. Angels at 12 'O' Clock and rated by many guns as one of Scotlands 'must do' drives. To see the cover, go to the Field web site and search the above issue.
The shoot has also been featured in the Scottish Field, see the Article named 'Attempting Everest'. the shoot has also feature in The Shooting Gazette, and in Country Sports.
All driven shoot days include, elevenses and lunch in our warm and cosy shoot room, and extra lunches for additional guests can be requested. Guns are met by the Head Keeper, Brett Ormerod and looked after all day by a shoot captain. Guns will usually get around the estate in their own 4WD vehicles. Guns are welcome to bring their own dogs and pick their own birds.
