Pheasant shooting in Cornwall

The pheasant shooting season runs from 1st October to 1st February. Pheasant shooting is the most popular game quarry in the UK and driven high pheasants are the most sought after and often the most expensive.

About pheasant shooting in cornwall

When deciding on which pheasant shoot to visit, take into account the reviews the shoot has received, and when speaking with the shoot, ask questions to understand fully what the shoot offers. The price per bird calculation is one way of comparing days, but there is a lot more to a day than the price you pay.

Colquite EstateBGA ASSURED

Cornwall, United Kingdom

A dedicated sporting estate first listed in the Domesday book. Colquite Estate is family owned and run, the estate is largely mature hardwood, located in beautiful North Cornwall nestled on the edge of Bodmin Moor. As a result of this location, the deep, wood lined valleys, cut by the river Camel, lead to some very testing birds. we usually start shooting about the middle of October. The estate is quite capable of back to back days with bags of up to 300 pheasants per day. Similarly, we also enjoy days of 200. please do ask, we try to be flexible to make your day with us as enjoyable as possible. we stand 8 pegs but are equally as happy with 9. For the driven days, on arrival, you will enjoy tea or coffee and a bacon bap in the Shoot Lodge. Off to the first drive, accompanied by your host/hostess, transported by estate vehicles. your host is usually Alexy the owners son. also on hand through the day is the owner Countess Pinky Le Grelle. After further drives, elevenses will be enjoyed in the field, to include champagne and slow gin (made on the estate) our own spicy meatballs, amongst other nibbles. Back on to 2 more drives before returning for a sumptuous meal prepared by our in house chef in the Shoot Lodge or a picnic style lunch (think safari!!) in our yurt in the woods with woodburner, bar and comfortable sofas (some guests have been known to have 40 winks!!) This is a fabulous estate focused on the guns requirements, challenging sport and first class hospitality. The area is renowned for its natural beauty and fine dining, with two Michelin starred restaurants within 10 miles of the estate. At an extra cost the shoot can provide excellent accommodation for your pre or post shoot day party. Please contact me to discuss your requirements.

Lanhydrock

Cornwall, United Kingdom

Exceptional Birds & Varied Sport Lanhydrock is renowned for its superb bird presentation, offering a mix of sporting pheasants, high birds, and driven partridge throughout the season. Carefully curated drives utilise the estate’s deep valleys and woodland, ensuring thrilling shooting for all skill levels. The variety of terrain allows for challenging yet fair sport, where birds are presented at varying heights and speeds. Occasional duck flights add an extra dimension, keeping Guns engaged. This is traditional British driven shooting at its very best, delivering an unforgettable challenge in a stunning setting.

Caerhays Castle

Cornwall, United Kingdom

Caerhays Castle Shoot is one of the better known shoots in the West Country. The 4,500 acre estate is centred in two deep Cornish valleys which run down to the sea on the south Cornish coast between Mevagissey and St Mawes. The scenery, topography and location of the shoot is unique. The estate hosts over 80 days’ partridge and pheasant shooting each season starting in early September. Unlike many shoots which buy in six to eight week old poults, all the pheasants at Caerhays are hatched, reared and released by our team of three fulltime keepers. Jimmy Andrews, the head keeper, has worked at Caerhays for 20 years. All days’ shooting at Caerhays are hosted in person by the owners, Charles and Lizzie Williams. The estate has around 40 separate drives which range in size, scale and duration enabling the shoot to lay on 200 and 300 plus bird days five or six days a week later in the season in December and January. The family retains 10-12 days in the season for their own shooting. Caerhays hosts teams of guns from several countries, from city businesses, roving syndicates and groups of friends who enjoy hospitable shooting. We seldom need to advertise or use agents as ‘word of mouth’ is normally more than adequate to fill the few remaining days not already filled by year on year repeat bookings. This year we have approached GunsOnPegs specifically to identify some new younger teams of guns to experience what Caerhays has to offer with a view to them returning in future years. The days offered here are smaller days. It is encouraging to see the growing numbers of ladies now shooting. One of the key attractions of shooting at Caerhays is that the estate has its own shooting lodge or private hotel which has eight en suite double bedrooms located in Caerhays Village. The accommodation is five star and managed by Luke Tyler with Nicky Jones as chef. Avoiding a long drive before and/or after a day’s shooting has considerable appeal. While Caerhays indeed has ‘high’ birds we do not believe that 32’’ barrels and 34g cartridges should be the norm. A ‘proper’ shooting day does not need Exocet missiles and unnecessarily wounded birds! In our view a day’s shooting is about hospitality and fun as much as the sport itself and we aim to provide both. Caerhays is a strong supporter of the Game & Wildlife Conservation Trust and has made major contributions to the GWCT grey partridge reintroduction project near Padstow as well as the Cornwall Red Squirrel Project. Minders and loaders are available (with prior warning) for new and inexperienced guns and transport to individual drives is available for those who need it. Some groups prefer a team of only six guns. The shoot is however pegged for up to 10 guns and the norm would be for teams of eight or nine guns. Unless specifically requested we do not normally have a draw for pegs at the start of the day. Instead we prefer and genuinely believe it to be fairer overall to place guns individually at each drive in accordance with how the day develops.

Cornakey Shoot

Cornwall, United Kingdom

Welcome to Cornakey Shoot, a family run walked up shoot established for over 30 years. Set in 700 acres of farmland and steep wooded valleys on the North Cornwall Coast producing high quality birds. We have two locations approximately 3.5 miles from each other, Cornakey Farm covers 250 acres, and is north of Endslee and Shears. The land is adjacent to Marsland Manor and has 1 pen at the top of the valley producing high birds. Endslee Farm and Shears Farm have a combined acreage of 450\. We have 4 pens on this land, 3 of which are on Endslee, the other on Shears, they are all situated within the popular Coombe Valley. We are a small syndicate shoot that can offer days walked up with our members on Saturdays and we have limited days mid weeks available for groups. As well as Pheasant and Pigeons, Coombe Valley has a natural bounty of Woodcock always elusive and challenging. We also have driven Snipe, these unpredictable birds provide challenging sport, however the numbers of these birds vary from season to season depending on weather conditions. Members need to be of reasonable fitness as there are a number of different types of terrains to traverse. We had our shoot reviewed in Shooting Gazettes UK shoot Guide April 2011\. Heres what they said; **Walked-up shooting** **Cornwall** **Shoot name:** Endslee Shoot **What's it like:** A friendly and relaxed family-run rough shoot established over 20 years ago. A variety of shooting opportunities are possible, including walked-up and driven game shooting in the same day. The driven game comes from the various pens situated on the grounds. The shoot has two seperate locations, Endslee Farm and north of that Cornakey Farm. Endslee Farm is set in the beautiful Coombe Valley, where being a good snap shot really helps as birds fly over the treetops. Cornakey Farm is set in a deep valley, making the birds extremely high. **Where:** Morwenstow, north of Bude **Size:** 700 acres **Quarry:** Pheasant, pigeon, woodcock and snipe **Topography:** Undulating fields and steep wooded valleys Shoot Owner/Gamekeeper - M.Rowe & C.Rowe We are looking for some new syndicate menbers for the coming season, so here isa little information for the2013/2014 Season **Fee for the season.** Full gun £700 Half gun £400 **We will walk the shoot** from the first Saturday of October 2013\. This will give new members a chance to get to know the land, whilst we dog in the poults. Shots may be taken at mature birds during this initial period. **Insurance.** All members must have full insurance **Rough Shooting** is nothing like a day on a formal shoot, it requires sharp wits and the ability to shoot safely in all conditions. The majority of shooting at Endslee takes place in deep wooded valleys, its heavy going, you will need to have a fair level of fitness. We have the benefit of a drive below each of the 5 pens on the shoot. **Beating will be shared between guns on a rotating basis**
