A dedicated sporting estate first listed in the Domesday book. Colquite Estate is family owned and run, the estate is largely mature hardwood, located in beautiful North Cornwall nestled on the edge of Bodmin Moor. As a result of this location, the deep, wood lined valleys, cut by the river Camel, lead to some very testing birds. we usually start shooting about the middle of October.
The estate is quite capable of back to back days with bags of up to 300 pheasants per day. Similarly, we also enjoy days of 200. please do ask, we try to be flexible to make your day with us as enjoyable as possible. we stand 8 pegs but are equally as happy with 9.
For the driven days, on arrival, you will enjoy tea or coffee and a bacon bap in the Shoot Lodge. Off to the first drive, accompanied by your host/hostess, transported by estate vehicles. your host is usually Alexy the owners son. also on hand through the day is the owner Countess Pinky Le Grelle.
After further drives, elevenses will be enjoyed in the field, to include champagne and slow gin (made on the estate) our own spicy meatballs, amongst other nibbles. Back on to 2 more drives before returning for a sumptuous meal prepared by our in house chef in the Shoot Lodge or a picnic style lunch (think safari!!) in our yurt in the woods with woodburner, bar and comfortable sofas (some guests have been known to have 40 winks!!)
This is a fabulous estate focused on the guns requirements, challenging sport and first class hospitality. The area is renowned for its natural beauty and fine dining, with two Michelin starred restaurants within 10 miles of the estate.
At an extra cost the shoot can provide excellent accommodation for your pre or post shoot day party. Please contact me to discuss your requirements.
Hospitality
we offer good hospitality always with a smile! for those of you who come for the day you are welcomed with bacon & egg baps with fresh coffee, tea and orange juice, for those of you that stay with us you have a large cooked breakfast. 11's are usually our spicy meatballs and other nibbles with Champagne and Sloe Gin. our 'lunches' are either a woodland style by our purpose built yurt in the woods (think safari!) or a traditional meal in the Shoot Lodge at the end of the day. we use local products wherever we can - Colquite venison, locally reared and butchered beef and pork and locally grown veg where possible. everything is included in the price you pay for the day.
Birds
the birds are challenging, with the deep goyles and the woodland shooting, sometimes you get surprised from which direction the birds come from. we only have 1 or 2 drives that the guns actually stand in a field. we are a pheasant shoot but we have partridges in most drives to mix things up a bit!
Topography
Colquite has ancient woodlands that straddle the river Camel that we shoot both sides of, sometimes you will be one side and the picker uppers the other side.
About the hosts
the days are usually hosted by Alexy the owners (Countess Pinky Le Grelle) son, Pinky is usually on hand as well. the atmosphere is more laid back than formal, but always efficient and with a smile

We were a small team of guns on a small day at the end of December at Colquite. In short the day was fantastic and we were treated as Lords. We started off with a nice drive where the guns could get their eye in and a few birds were put in the bag. The stands were placed where everybody had shooting as well. After the second drive we were treated to very nice treat of sausages cooked in a wonderful sauce. There was strong drink available and soft drinks as well. The owner of the shoot came out to talk to the guns and there was nothing that was too much trouble. The last drive by the river Camel was out of this world with birds coming off the top of the hill and flying over the valley. Each bird shot on this drive is one you would remember for the rest of your life. At the end of the day there was a fantastic meal available with wine and port. Jim, the keeper , did a fantastic job and I will hope to go back again next year.

I have just returned from a two day trip into Devon, the first day being a day at Colquite. What a glorious day's shooting in deep wooded valleys all day, barely driving more than a mile. The shoot was run with a relaxed efficiency, no rushing around between drives. I never noticed the continuous rain! Would recommend to anybody looking for a day of quality shooting, great hospitality and a very well appointed shooting lodge. I am now back home trying to lose the weight gained from the delicious food! Well done and many thanks.
