FORMAL DRIVEN SHOOTING ACCOMPANIED WALKED-UP & ROUGH SHOOTING NO-FRILLS MINI-DRIVEN DAYS Dear Followers of GunsOnPegs and the Morghew Shoot, It's nice to see us once again featuring in the GunsOnPegs / Lycetts 'Most Viewed Shoots of the Year' Survey. For the 2026/27 game season, we are offering a full programme of formal driven, mini-driven and accompanied walked-up/rough shooting over the Estate's 2000 + acres of arable and woodland. In the interest of saving you a lot of scrolling ... If you are a SOLO GUN or enquiring for a group of friends to join a driven shoot on a SATURDAY, we can currently accommodate you on the following days: 24th October (1 peg only) 7th November (1 peg only) 19th December (1 peg) If you would like us to list another formal driven shoot during the forthcoming season, please get in touch, and if there's sufficient demand, we will try to oblige. If you are enquiring about a driven shoot for a team of ten on a WEEKDAY, we can accommodate you throughout October and November. If you are seeking accompanied walked-up and rough shooting on a SATURDAY, we can accommodate you on: 10th October 17th October 26th December (Boxing Day) 9th January 16th January If you are seeking accompanied walked-up and rough shooting on MONDAYS TO FRIDAYS, we can accommodate you throughout the season. And if you are interested in our new 'Strictly No Frills' Mini-Driven shooting, we can entertain you on the followingSaturdays: 28th November, 12th December and 2nd January 2027 FORMAL DRIVEN SHOOTING Obviously, this is our flagship offering. On Saturdays from October until the early days of January, we offer formal driven 80-bird days for up to 10 guns, shooting mainly pheasant and a few duck. The Estate lays on a full team of beaters and pickers-up, and the price includes sloe gin and canapes at 11.00am, and claret and coffee at lunchtime. Days begin with tea and coffee, and end with tea, coffee and Victoria sponge cake. Guns bring their own field lunch, which is consumed in the Estate's stunning neo-medieval hall - complete with roaring fire. Transport is provided in our 1968 Unimog gun bus, a relic from the cold war. Cost for the 26/27 season is £550 plus VAT per Gun. We reserve several of our Saturdays for roving syndicates, but many of our driven days are what we call 'Strangers' Days' on which pegs are sold individually, thus offering solo guns and small groups of friends an opportunity to enjoy formal driven shooting on Morghew Park. ACCOMPANIED WALKED-UP and ROUGH SHOOTING There has been an explosion of interest in rough shooting over the past few years, and we probably offer more accompanied walked-up and rough shooting than any other Estate in the south-east. We assemble teams of between two and seven Guns on all weekdays and some Saturdays throughout the season. Accompanied by one or more of our gamekeeping staff, Guns enjoy a day's walked-up and rough shooting on what is a fully stocked, fed and keepered Estate. Quarry includes five pheasants per Gun, or ducks if shot on one of the upland ponds, plus unlimited snipe as well as pigeons, crows etc. Days can end with a wild duck flight on the Estate's marshland reservoir, for which we make no promises, but where there is also no bag limit. Guns drive around the Estate in their own cars, and given the fine condition of Estate roads, there is no need to bring a 4x4. We don't recommend it, but a bicycle will get you around quite comfortably. For the 26/27 season, the cost ranges from £260 + VAT per Gun on Mondays through Thursday, to £270 + VAT on Fridays and £300 + VAT on Bank Holidays and all available Saturdays. Whereas twenty years ago, nobody would dream of booking accompanied rough shooting until the season was well underway, some Guns are now starting to reserve rough shooting months in advance. I take this as a welcome indication that accompanied rough shooting is no longer the poor relative of driven shooting, but rather a demanding discipline that is highly valued by a growing following of our most experienced Guns. 'STRICTLY NO FRILLS' MINI-DRIVEN SHOOTING For the 26/27 season, we're going to launch a new format that sits somewhere between formal driven shooting and our 'accompanied walked-up and rough shooting'. On three or four Saturdays this season, we're going to offer a 'strictly no frills' mini-driven day for between six and ten Guns, with target bags of 42 birds for teams of six Guns, rising all the way to 70 birds for teams of ten. (Multiply the number of Guns by seven birds each to arrive at the overall bag) These days will be priced at £510 inc VAT per peg. We will offer pegs on these days to both teams and solo Guns, and we hope to get at least six Guns on each of the nominated Saturdays. In the event that we get fewer than six Guns, the day will be downgraded to an 'accompanied walked-up and rough shoot', and Guns will receive a partial refund. In this way, every Gun who puts his or her name down for a mini-driven day is guaranteed to get some shooting. The Saturdays we've nominated for 'no frills mini-driven shooting' are 24th November, 12th December and 2nd January 2027. BACKGROUND and HISTORY of the ESTATE Morghew Park is one of the Kent's ancient Estates and can trace its history and many of its boundaries back to 968 AD, a century before the Norman Conquest, when its sale for 1450 pence was witnessed and signed by Edgar, arguably the first King of all England. It is located near Tenterden, Kent, and covers more than 2000 acres of arable and woodland, with a pleasing mixture of Wealden upland (small fields, hawthorn hedges and oak standards) descending steeply in places onto traditional marshland. Recently, Morghew Park has absorbed the acreage of Palstre Court Farm, which takes the Estate up onto the Isle of Oxney for the first time. This is an interesting piece of land, having been a Roman settlement, and was more recently gifted by William the Conqueror to his brother Odo, Earl of Kent and Bishop of Bayeux, in the years following 1066. Other landholdings gifted to Odo at this time include the entire manor of Benenden. Our land is in a ring-fence, meaning that the Estate is not bisected by any public roads, and several of the drives are around a mile from the nearest public road. Morghew Park is renowned for the warmth and friendliness of its hospitality, its tidy agricultural operation and the beauty of the unspoilt views available from many of its drives. AND FINALLY ... The Morghew Shoot is a popular local institution with a remarkably loyal following for all its shooting formats. The Morghew gamekeepers and shoot captains regularly quiz our Guns on what they most value about the shoot. Over and above the obvious qualities without which no shoot would be popular, three characteristics get mentioned time and again. Firstly, the friendliness of the whole team involved in a day's shooting, from the landowner, gamekeeper and shoot captain right down to the youngest beater. Secondly, the unspoilt beauty of the Estate and its distant views, some of which reach all the way to Fairlight and Hastings on the South Coast. And finally, the high level of organisation, which means that our days, with very rare exceptions, run like clockwork. If you're interested to find out more about any of our three shooting formats, I'll be more than happy to drive you around the Estate for half an hour. Just send an enquiry via the GunsOnPegs website. Regards, Tom Lewis
