Duck shooting in Shropshire

Duck shooting in Shropshire

The duck shooting season runs from 1st September to 31st January inland, and until the 20th February below the high-water mark. Duck shooting varies hugely depending on the style in which it is done.

About duck shooting in shropshire

The key aspect is whether the duck are reared or wild as the style of shooting varies somewhat. Many driven duck shoots will rely upon a large reared stock whereas duck flighting for wild duck relies upon fieldcraft and luck. The most common species is mallard but when shooting wild duck, wigeon and teal will make up a large part of the bag.

Leaton Knolls

Shropshire, United Kingdom

Leaton Knolls Shoot is located just outside Shrewsbury and under an hour from Birmingham. The shoot covers the Leaton Knolls estate that is approximately 1500 acres. It is made up of a fantastic mixture of woodlands that snake along the steep banks of the river Severn. The main wood land then splits off into 3 other wooded valleys that offer perfect topography for Pheasant and Partridge shooting. Across the estate and either sides of the wooded valleys are nearly 40 acres game covers. These allow the land really to do the work, and catapult the pheasants and partridge. Some off the best know drives are The Dingle, The Spine,Sawmills, and Pig Run Knoll. We are able to provide days from 100 to 200+ birds. The earlier days start off with a high percentage of Partridge  and then move onto a mix of pheasant drives as the season progresses. We are flexible to weekday shoots and Saturdays and can accommodate 7 to 9 guns in a team. We also run our sister Shoot, Berwick Estate next door where we farm and can therefore offer back to back days, this is similar ground with a lot of game covers producing exciting partridge drives. We also will be offering more informal days with smaller bags, we are blessed with a great mix of habitats this allows for a great variety of species. These days can be tailored to your needs as an individual or group. These days could also include an evening wildfowling with species such as teal, geese, or mallard to name a few. Non shooting guests and dogs are welcome. Most drives are in easy walking distance, however if required a 4X4 mule can be provided. We can offer local  B&B for travelling guns. The B&B has been voted by Countryfile, in the top 10 farmstay’s in the UK for a rural break. We have a variety of dates and bags available listed below if you would prefer to shoot on a weekday there is no problem with tweaking dates to suit the team. Willey Park EstateBGA ASSURED

Shropshire, United Kingdom

Belonging to the Forester family since 1740, Willey Park is located in the heart of rural Shropshire, close to the small market town of Much Wenlock, and boasts the longest running continuous game book in the country dating back to 1820. The Willey Estate came into the Forester family via the marriage of Elizabeth Weld to Brook Forester in the mid 1700's. John Weld, who was Lord of the Manor from 1618, used the heavy clay soil at Willey to his advantage and created fish ponds which were managed for trout fishing when he enclosed the park in 1625. Today these now ornamental lakes provide exciting sport with call duck put down to draw the wild mallard and teal. Not far from Coalbrookdale (one of the birthplaces of the Industrial Revolution) on the edge of the East Shropshire Coal field, both ironstone and coal were mined on the estate and the names of drives such as The Furnace and The Pump hark back to that long gone industrial era. Willey Park is surrounded by 2000 acres of lush parkland with many well placed woods providing sensational birds in awe inspiring surroundings. We pride ourselves here on producing quality pheasants, duck and partridge. We provide days for teams and individual guns of between 200 and 250 birds and try to meet any particular requirements clients may have. At Willey Park, shooting enthusiasts are treated to an unparalleled experience with 17 distinct drives thoughtfully curated by Lord Forester. Each drive offers unique challenges and picturesque views, allowing for an adaptable experience tailored to the skill level of the participants and whether they are first-time guests or returning clients. This diversity ensures that every visit to Willey Park is not only engaging but also fresh and memorable. Whether it’s the thrill of a steep bank drive or a more open approach for those newer to the sport, each day at Willey Park delivers excitement and adventure. The balance between familiarity for seasoned guests and new challenges keeps the shooting season dynamic and rewarding. The Field, February 2017. "Unless you are shooting or hunting you would never see an estate like this." The Field, February 2017. Rory Knight Bruce writes "The Foresters run the Willey Park Shoot with great pride in glorious surroundings. It is not just the setting and good birds, however, but an infusion of formality combined with a warmth of personality and welcome that keeps the guns coming back." The Shooting Times, January 2010. Shoot report: Willey Park shoot. "Joe Dimbleby returns to one of England’s oldest shoots to discover how its owner has succeeded in reviving his family’s illustrious sporting legacy."
