The Ripley Castle Shoot (Introduction by Mark Eddon) The Ripley Castle Shoot, Nr Harrogate in North Yorkshire, is a traditional driven game shoot where true sporting values still exist. Me and my wife sarah were lucky enough to have taken on the lease of Ripley Castle and Hob Green shoots for which there reputation goes before them. We will be carrying on in the same traditional manner with a relaxed and leisurely pace to each day allowing guns to take in the fantastic setting and surroundings of Ripley Castle. The land is best described as rolling countryside and parkland with woodlands established many years ago positioned to produce good sporting birds. These are complimented by over 100 acres of game cover which has improved the sporting quality of our birds over the years. There are over 20 main drives with a larger number of smaller drives which can be very testing. We release approximately 50% partridge and 50% pheasants. All reared from eggs or day old chicks on our rearing field at Ripley. There is a beautiful lake in the Park at Ripley Castle which produces some very testing duck and geese. We have one dedicated duck drive which is not your normal duck drive. It is only shot if all the guns on the day wish to shoot duck. Once you have tried it you will want to shoot it again. We principally cater for single guns and small parties with Exclusive Days for full teams. Our days are sold by the gun per day and we normally exceed the bag with no overage charged. We offer a variety of days with bags from 200 to 400 birds plus a few 150 bird days. Our average bag through the season is 240 birds. We are starting the day with breakfast in Ripley Castle. We plan to shoot 2/3 drives in the morning with drinks breaks. At mid day we will have a break for soup and pies. After a further 2 drives in the afternoon, the day ends around 3.00 p.m. with a late lunch. We recommend a 4 x 4 vehicle although well maintained estate roads connect most drives. We also have a courtesy pickup available each day with a driver. If you require this, some prior notice would be appreciated. The days are run at a leisurely pace with walking to each drive kept to a minimum. You are most welcome to invite a non shooting guest just to enjoy the day and there is always plenty of time between drives to work your dog. Although we will plan ongoing changes each season it is most important that we maintain past traditions, as you will experience when you visit. The shooting at North Stainley estate stretches from North Stainley near Ripon to Grewelthorpe near Masham, with topography ranging from flat mixed arable lands and pastures to rolling hills, steep quarry faces and high game crop topped valleys. The shoot has seen major investment over the last decade, creating a spectacular private shoot where there has been only one aim, to provide memorable shooting in the most attractive surroundings with superlative hospitality. The estate is constantly investing in large scale improvements, such as woodland planting, game crop expansion, access track construction and further land acquisition. The North Stainley end of the estate concentrates on providing smaller mixed walked up days and wild fowling, while the driven days occur mostly at the Mickley end of the estate, one of the most picturesque and quintessential parts of North Yorkshire. Although driven Pheasants are the primary game bird, the shoots also release French and English Partridge as well as Mallard which help boost our evening flight ponds. Most of the drives have been designed to allow very little travelling distance between them, and many you are able to walk from one to the other. We are also members of the Trusted Game scheme.

We have a great team of beaters and pickers up to ensure you have a great day.  Brantingham shoot, Brough north cave.  The shoot lies to the west of the A63 exit at the south cave junction then head towords Brough the shoot  is about 2 miles passed the round about on the right.  The estate land heads towards the river Humber We offer duck, pheasant and partridge shooting over 300 acres with 4 ponds and 10 pheasants and partridge drives. Pheasant and partridge are shot over cover crops and a small shelter belts. 3 large woods, which belts high birds on some parts of the shoot, Over 500 ducks,1500 pheasants and 400 partridges have been released. We are a family run shoot and can cater for full teams or individual guns to join our friendly syndicate.  Our syndicate is built upon farmer and good friends looking for a enjoyable day we shoot upto 8 days thought out the season on the best drive. We do not rush to try and fit as meany drives in as we can. We like to stop for refreshments in the morning and I nice driner brake todiscus the drives and the drives we would like to do next.  Full days are available from October onward. We are on top of a hill outside Skipton with wonderful views. Steep rolling country with most drives in the open on the edge of moorland. Guns come into the house for an excellent lunch and good wines. This is a very relaxed, friendly shoot with no overage. Guns are encouraged to bring dogs and the pickers up are well trained to keep well away from those wishing to work their dogs!! Pheasant, partridge and grouse. Most drives are off hill and moor edges providing very high testing birds . We have a couple of  drives where it is normal to be up to 8 to 1 cartridge to kill.....but don't worry as they are not all like that!!  We can do days of 2 pheasant drives, 2 partridge and 2 grouse or pure grouse days. Also Duck flighting on the moor. Family shoot with only a few days to let. 150 - 400 birds @ £44 all incl. No off road vehicles needed. Loaders can be provided if wanted. We can also do small semi driven / walked days of around 60 head for £1500. September Partridge 150 - 200 birds @ £39 all inc. Late 40 - 50 brace grouse days also for  £6,000 all in for 8 guns. We can also provide a novice day on the grouse of 25 -30 brace day providing experienced loaders / instructors including myself....
