  • Weeton Shoot

    Lancashire, United Kingdom

Weeton Shoot is in its twentieth season of being run by John, family and neighbours , whose sole objective is to make sure all the guns have a great day.  In the early 1800’s Thomas Miller (a wealthy local cotton mill owner) bought a 3,000 acre estate and remolded it into one of the best shooting estates in West Lancashire.  He planted woodlands on the higher ground to make best use of the undulating countryside and to show all the birds off to their best advantage.  Weeton Shoot covers 400 acres which include most of the best drives he created, plus a few recent additions of our own.  The new additions revolve around presenting red leg partridge from cover crops off the highest bankings and making good use of the prevailing westerly winds which we are seldom without.  The Shoot has over 45 acres of woodland, 10 large ponds and 60 acres of cover crop.  It has 15 different drives and the bag consists of Polish cross pheasants, red leg partridges and ducks including wild teal and snipe. It runs 20 shoots a year including a "Black Powder" Day which is sponsored by the Black Powder Gin Company situated on the same estate. An excellent lunch is provided in the old gun room, including exclusive use of the adjacent Black Powder Spirits Bar. Black powder make over 30 gins (including a world champion Navy strength) Severed Hand rums and Glorious 12th Whiskey.and we also serve the very good local Farmyard Ales. We have a great team of family and regular support staff who mix with the guns all day and help in any way they can, however, you are welcome to bring your own (well trained) gun dog if you wish.  This shoot is our winter hobby and it is run purely for family enjoyment.  It is specifically designed to be enjoyable and not necessarily commercial (we all have other jobs – farming).  The price of £600 guarantees 150 bird minimum – there is no overage.  We shoot 10-12 guns as this best suits our drives. The day starts at 9.30 am with coffee and breakfast barm and description of the day’s itinerary.  The first drive is 10.00 am.  Transport is provided all day (right to your peg if needed).  We do 2-3 drives in the morning;  we then break for a four course lunch followed by the remaining drives to a total of 4 or 5 before returning to the old gin room for the sweep results. Guns can take as much shot game home as they wish. (Safe and insured guns only please) The dates available are shown, but other dates may be available on request.

  • Harris End Shoot

    Lancashire, United Kingdom

Located within the Forest of Bowland next to the Bleasdale Fells, Harris End is a well established driven Pheasant and Partridge shoot in unspoilt countryside, with far reaching views to the Fylde coast and Morecambe bay. We are fortunate in being surrounded by shoots with Abbeystead and Bleasdale being the two best known. Our Pheasant and Partridge are reared locally by the keeper Martin Smith and released on to the shoot well before the start of the season. We have a dedicated team of beaters who have been with us for many years. The land that we shoot over lends itself perfectly to driven pheasant and partridge shooting with birds that will challenge all guns. Our best drives are:- The Alders and Beck Wood both of which consist of mature trees next to the heather of the Grouse moor The day starts at 8.15 with a full cooked English breakfast in the local pub and ends there with a two course lunch. All drinks included. Rooms are available. The day is hosted by Tim Dickson whose family have owned the shoot since the 1950`s.  The farm where we park for the shooting is about 5 minutes drive from the pub, guns often share vehicles and 4x4 wheel drive cars are not required. We stop for sherry and biscuits after the third drive, then shoot through to lunch. The shoot consists of 5/6 drives within easy walking of the vehicles. Guns are often accompanied by their wives and well trained dogs are welcome. About 10 mins drive from Junction 33 off the M6 We are happy to let whole days, but most of our letting has been to small groups and individual guns, many who we welcome back each season. Thank you for reading this and If you would like to know more, please make contact via Guns on Pegs for a chat.
