Weeton Shoot is in its twentieth season of being run by John, family and neighbours , whose sole objective is to make sure all the guns have a great day.

In the early 1800’s Thomas Miller (a wealthy local cotton mill owner) bought a 3,000 acre estate and remolded it into one of the best shooting estates in West Lancashire.  He planted woodlands on the higher ground to make best use of the undulating countryside and to show all the birds off to their best advantage.  Weeton Shoot covers 400 acres which include most of the best drives he created, plus a few recent additions of our own.  The new additions revolve around presenting red leg partridge from cover crops off the highest bankings and making good use of the prevailing westerly winds which we are seldom without.  The Shoot has over 45 acres of woodland, 10 large ponds and 60 acres of cover crop.  It has 15 different drives and the bag consists of Polish cross pheasants, red leg partridges and ducks including wild teal and snipe. It runs 20 shoots a year including a "Black Powder" Day which is sponsored by the Black Powder Gin Company situated on the same estate. An excellent lunch is provided in the old gun room, including exclusive use of the adjacent Black Powder Spirits Bar. Black powder make over 30 gins (including a world champion Navy strength) Severed Hand rums and Glorious 12th Whiskey.and we also serve the very good local Farmyard Ales.

We have a great team of family and regular support staff who mix with the guns all day and help in any way they can, however, you are welcome to bring your own (well trained) gun dog if you wish.  This shoot is our winter hobby and it is run purely for family enjoyment.  It is specifically designed to be enjoyable and not necessarily commercial (we all have other jobs – farming).  The price of £600 guarantees 150 bird minimum – there is no overage.  We shoot 10-12 guns as this best suits our drives.

The day starts at 9.30 am with coffee and breakfast barm and description of the day’s itinerary.  The first drive is 10.00 am.  Transport is provided all day (right to your peg if needed).  We do 2-3 drives in the morning;  we then break for a four course lunch followed by the remaining drives to a total of 4 or 5 before returning to the old gin room for the sweep results. Guns can take as much shot game home as they wish.

(Safe and insured guns only please)

The dates available are shown, but other dates may be available on request.

Hospitality

Coffee on arrival, four course excellent traditional lunch in the old gun room with log burner and directly adjacent to the "Black Powder Spirit Distillery" which will be open on the day for sampling, plus the odd glass on the way round.

Topography

Undulating ground with strategically placed woods and cover crops ideally suited for both pheasant and partridge. We also have many wild teal at certain times of the year and put down around 12,000 birds, dispersed equally between pheasant, partridge and mallard.

Conservation Efforts

Planted 30 acres trees , 5 kilometers of hedges and numerous flowers meadows and wild bird seed acres. Constructed a 5 acre lake. Introduced Bee Hives for pollination. Extensive vermin control and added numerous successful nesting sites for Lapwings, Oyster catchers and Barn Owls etc Almost 90 different species of bird have been recorded on site this year. .

About the hosts

An excellent day, faultless in every aspect. A perfect match of formality and fun at a sensible cost.

First day of the new season and it was excellent as usual. Tho warm a stiff breeze had birds flying at top quality. All staff involved are helpful and friendly, nothing is too much trouble. Great organisation with full transport around the shoot on a gun bus. And top notch catering with plenty of choice. A commercial shoot with a family feel. Would recommend every time.

It was the first time attending the shoot , we were given a warm welcome , tea and coffee on arrival. We did three drives before lunch , partridges and Duck flew well. Lunch was outstanding, choice of soup for starter , choice of main course , and the same for desert followed by cheese and biscuits. Great day , lovely host! Good value for money

Mr. Greg Mills

It's always a bit of a gamble when you buy a couple of pegs on a new shoot for the first time, but this was frankly excellent. This was apparently the first shoot day of the season for Weeton though you wouldn't know it by the slick and professional day put on with the emphasis on ensuring all guns thoroughly enjoyed the day. The entire team, from beaters to hospitality staff, were friendly and engaging and really made us feel at home immediately. The drives were pleasantly varied with both duck and partridge flying well all morning. We actually had just about shot the advertised bag by (our four course) lunch though John, very generously, allowed us a further drive. This took the final number to 201 with no overage charged. I can't thank the team enough for a brilliant day from start to finish, and will most certainly be back with my father in law.

"I had the pleasure of attending the Weeton simulated game shoot on Saturday 23rd July 2025, organised by John Loftus, and it was nothing short of outstanding. From start to finish, the day was brilliantly planned and thoroughly enjoyable. The shoot itself featured five varied and challenging drives, including a closing competition that added a fun, competitive edge. With 16 guns plus guests, the atmosphere was lively and welcoming. The clays were presented in impressive volume and from all angles, truly simulating live game and offering a fantastic test of shooting skill. Equally memorable was the hospitality. We were treated to an excellent full English breakfast to start the day, Pimms after the first drive, and a superb four-course barbecue lunch. The food and drink flowed freely and added a real sense of occasion to the day. John was a fantastic host throughout – organised, generous, and clearly passionate about creating a great experience for all involved. It was a most enjoyable and exciting day, and I look forward to the next one!”
