Spectacular professionally run shoot over 5,000 acres of sporting countryside in a magical setting. **Driven woodcock shooting** during the winter months in November, December and January. Woodcock is one of the most revered and sporting birds. It is a very testing shot, as it flushes very fast, swoops and curls, often with little or no sound. Woodcock arrive every year in Ireland from their breeding ground in northern Europe and Russia. We adopt a very strict limit on the numbers of days that we offer this sport, due to self-imposed conservation reasons. As a result we only offer a maximum of 4 days shooting per month. The emphasis and ethos of the type of shooting is best enjoyed by true sportsmen and women, who relish a good challenging day and have respect and integrity for the countryside. Baronscourt attracts a high number of woodcock because of its mild climate in the winter; as well as the provision of specialist cover for sheltering in, and the availability of very rich food sources in the nearby pastureland. Much of the coniferous woodland cover has been carefully managed to create the perfect habitat for woodcock, allowing guns the opportunity for a sporting shot. Rides have been cut through the forest to allow the beaters and the dogs to flush the woodcock. Guns walk parallel to the beating line, either on a forest roads or track designed to give the gun a clear view of the quarry when it flushes. The ideal number of guns in the group is 8 guns, and should be considered the minimum number. All the arrangements are made by the Estate for the shooting experience. The shoot is led by the Estate’s Headgame Keeper together with a team of highly experienced beaters and their dogs will guide the day’s proceeding. The Estate provides transport for the day, and a light lunch is normally arranged on the Estate in the stableyard. We do advise that only experienced shots take part as safety is of the paramount and ask that all guns have valid insurance. Please see our booking conditions found on our website. Due to the nature of the countryside and terrain we do advise that all guns are in fit enough condition to walk over uneven ground, steep slopes, which can be slippery and can create physical exertion. The shooting is let on a either a two or three day basis, with accommodation provided on the Estate in the Governors Lodge and Clock Tower, both 4 star rated by Northern Ireland Tourist Board. No guarantee is given as to the bag limit due to the fact that this is wild game shooting (we recommend that clients take out weather insurance as if the shoot is cancelled due to weather related issues we cannot provide a refund). The Estate will use its expert knowledge and best endeavours to provide a challenging and sporting experience. The **Driven pheasant shoot** at Baronscourt is well known in Northern Irish shooting circles. It provides some of the most challenging shooting opportunities available in N. Ireland in a beautiful setting, and is also great fun. A few let days are offered each year to a team of 8 guns. The bag expectancy is from 200 birds per day, and two back to back days can be offered. All transportation is provided on the day for the guns, in our shoot wagon - which provides a great place for the guns to chat and have a joke between drives. Refreshments are provided midway through the morning in a lovely log cabin, by the edge of Lough Fanny, with a roaring fire to accompany the sloe gin and sausage rolls and hot cup of soup. The Estate is happy to advise on local accommodation options. Press mentions "A trip to an Emerald Isle shoot ticks all the boxes for Darren Crush" featured the Baronscourt shoot in Shooting Gazette, Jan 2011. The shoot was also featured in the Shooting Times in early 2011. In addition, to the driven woodcock and driven pheasant we also offer a number of walked up and rough days for duck and pheasant shooting. Please get in touch if you would like more information on any of the above. Getting to Nothern Ireland from GB is really very easy, with daily flights from Belfast to all regional and main airports. Airport transfers can be arranged.
