Bisbrooke Hall Simulated Game days

Rutland, United Kingdom

The family run game shoot has been going for many years now, this season we don’t want it to end so we have started our very own simulated game days. The shoot is situated in the rolling hills of Rutland, with some great high hedges and woodland shooting. With these two natural benefits, the estate brings you some of the best simulated game days on the market. The day is run as a full days shooting. The guns arrive around 9:30 and are greeted with bacon rolls, tea and coffee followed by the normal chat about safety, then onto the first two drives where believe it or not there is a grouse moor In Rutland. Mid morning, local sausage rolls are served with soft drink and beer. Followed up by another drive of screaming clays. Then back to the Great hall for a two course home cooked lunch, served with wine and other drinks. Lunch and tea all being served in the Great hall. Finally the day ends in the wood, pigeon roosting, hopefully you will have got your eye in from the morning. The guns should expect to shoot at between 4000-5000 clays throughout the day. These days are great fun for the whole family and friends. Please contact for more information.

Exton Park

Rutland, United Kingdom

Exton Estate is a large rural Estate located in the heart of the picturesque county of Rutland.  Home to the Earls of Gainsborough for over 400 years. The Estate is blessed with a variety of landscapes, partly as result of mining operations for iron ore in the 1900’s with deep valleys, undulating ground, ancient woodlands and high hedges together with tried and tested game cover placement combine to produce memorable and challenging pheasants and partridges. The shoot, although highly professional has a relaxed and informal atmosphere with a focus on producing a thoroughly enjoyable days sport. Lunch is taken in either Exton Hall or Fort Henry depending on requirements. Fort Henry, built in 1780, is arguably one of the most memorable and enchanting locations for a shoot lunch.  The keeper has been on the Estate for over 25 years and as a result has a huge amount of knowledge over the land. Most of the shoot staff have been with us for many years, one of whom has not missed a single days shooting at Exton in over 26 seasons. All this adds to the smoothness of the day and guns enjoyment. Days with bags ranging from 150 - 250 birds are available.  The day is starts with tea and coffee at the briefing and is made up of 6 drives with four drives in the morning along with a break for elevenses and then a further two drives in the afternoon following lunch.  There are 16 main drives on the shoot enabling us to provide a full days varied and exciting shooting no matter what the conditions are like. We have some excellent Hotels within a few minutes drive inlcuding Hambleton Hall and Barnsdale Lodge.  These hotels are used to dealing with shooting parties, allow dogs and will keep your guns in their safe.  We do not charge overage as we feel that it is for us to get the day right and allow you to enjoy it to the maximum.  All hospitality is included within the price of £30 + VAT per bird.  Do feel free to contact us to discuss the shoot, which is one of the enterprises on the Estate for which we are very proud and delighted to be able to offer a select few days.

Glaston Shoot

Rutland, United Kingdom

**Glaston Shoot** The shoot is situated in the beautiful rolling countryside of Rutland. It is conveniently situated 10 miles west of the A1 just to the east of Uppingham and is also easily accessed from the A14 and M1. Percy and Tom Gilman have been running the shoot for fourteen years, mainly on the land they farm, with adjoining and infill areas added to make up the total. The shoot has an enthusiastic first rate full time keeper called Andy Swallow. We normally let 200-250 bird days. Glaston shoot covers some 3,000 acres of woodland, arable land and grassland in one block. In the main, birds are driven from cover crops back to wooded areas with the guns well below the covers. The north half of the shoot is mainly used for partridges on south facing light land. The south half is mainly for pheasants but we have some partridges in all drives to keep the guns alert early in a drive! We start shooting partridges at the end of September and the main pheasant drives start in around mid November. The ethos of the shoot is to aspire to provide a full days sport and hospitality as we would like to receive when invited to another shoot. With this in mind we use a ‘shoot bus’ to travel to the drives with plenty of room for guns and dogs so that we can all converse and have plenty of banter. We normally stand eight guns and would aim to have birds over all the guns on each drive by placing guns to take account of the wind and topography. We hardly ever have back guns as we feel the birds should be left in peace if they have avoided the line of guns. At the end of the drive the pickers up stay well back and give the guns with dogs the opportunity to pick up first before they sweep through from the back. On a typical shoot day we meet at 9am at the local inn where we introduce ourselves over a cup of coffee, a bacon roll and a sloe gin. One of us will welcome you to the shoot and give the do‘s and don’ts, we draw peg numbers and shoot cards are handed out with the gun’s names printed already. I can never remember names and it makes the day so much easier when you have a card to refer to. The ‘gun bus’ picks us up from the inn and takes us to the first drive. We normally have six drives in the day, with numbers as even as possible on each drive. We do not start with a big drive. After two drives we stop for a sloe gin and a nibble and after the fourth drive return to the inn for a two course hot lunch with cheese and biscuits and wine. We aim to do two drives in the afternoon finishing with tea and cake in the inn. All guns are given a brace of dressed birds at the end of the day.
