The Hamptworth Estate, although in Wiltshire, is within the northern boundary of the New Forest National Park. Extending to over 3000 acres the estate is heavily wooded and has hosted shooting parties, field trials and rough shooting for generations. The estate also holds a large population of fallow deer and has an annual cull target of 150 deer. Accompanied stalking is available.
For the 2013/14 season the estate has chosen to concentrate on walked up/rough shoot days for up to six guns with a target bag of 25 - 30 birds. The daily charge is £780 which equates to £130 per gun. The days will be hosted by the Keeper and or the estate gun dog trainer Nick Gregory who trained and handled the 2009 Cocker champion.
A day involves meeting at the "Watering Hole" prior to departing onto the estate. Teams can break for lunch which they can either bring themselves or dine at the local pub (this is self funding). Teams will encounter a wide variety of terrain and can work their own dogs or rely on the home team to flush for them. On occasion some Guns will stand as others in the team work through small woods and along hedgerows shooting as they move.
