Pheasant
Partridge
Woodcock
Pigeon

The shoot has been running on the family farm for over 40 years. The birds are spread out over the 2,000 acre farm. It puts down roughly 3,000 birds each year. It is a mixture of pheasant and partridge, predominantly pheasant. The shot to bird ratio is roughly 4:1. We are based around the Marlborough downs and Savernake forest, so we have a mixture of woodland and rolling hills which makes up our topography. Guns travel around in their own vehicles/share vehicles.

Hospitality

Bacon Rolls & Hot drinks on arrival. Elevensees in the field, a range of drinks and nibbles, depending on the weather, game sausage rolls or soup and bread. Lunch - 2 Courses, a main meal followed by a pudding or cheese depending on the day.

Topography

Varies between a 200 acre woodland in the centre of the farm, to rolling hills using maize, woodland and other game covers to flush the birds from.

Conservation Efforts

We are always planting new areas of woodland, hedgerows, putting in different wild bird mix cover crops etc to try and promote biodiversity on the farm/shoot. A few members of the local syndicate are involved with different forestry firms, so we are constantly getting up to date information of best practice.

About the hosts

There are a number of points of contact on the day, a couple of individuals from the family farm and a couple of members from the local syndicate, who are all able to offer help and guidance.
