Hospitality

Hospitality

BTGS prides itself on offering a warm, well-organised and traditional shoot-day experience, with hospitality that reflects the character of the club.

Guns can expect: On arrival: Freshly prepared bacon baps, with tea and coffee served at the Pavilion to start the day properly Throughout the day: Water and soft drinks available in the field Elevenses (in the field): A substantial and sociable break, including hearty savoury options and cakes, accompanied by beer, ginger wine and the traditional bullshot After the shoot: Return to the Pavilion for tea, cakes and a relaxed end to the day

Hospitality is an important part of the BTGS experience — informal, generous and very much in keeping with the friendly, club atmosphere.

Birds

BTGS offers a genuinely varied day’s sport, with birds presented over classic Salisbury Plain terrain. Guns can expect testing pheasants over rolling downland, with a mix of height, angle and pace that provides a consistently enjoyable challenge. Rather than extreme birds, the emphasis is on well-presented, sporting shooting that rewards good fieldcraft and accurate shooting.

Topography

Set within the vast and open landscape of Salisbury Plain, BTGS offers a style of shooting shaped by rolling downland, wide valleys and natural contours. The scale of the ground creates a sense of space and freedom rarely found on more traditional shoots, with each drive influenced by wind, terrain and line — making for varied and memorable sport.

Conservation Efforts

BTGS is committed to responsible countryside management and actively supports the local environment across Salisbury Plain. Our approach includes habitat management through cover crops, woodland edges and natural corridors that benefit a wide range of wildlife, alongside predator control carried out in accordance with best practice to support ground-nesting birds and biodiversity.

We operate within a landscape already shaped by conservation, where our activities form part of a balanced ecosystem, with a focus on low-intensity, well-managed releases aligned with current guidance.

All game is distributed free within the local community as a sustainable food source. BTGS sees itself as a long-term custodian of the ground, maintaining both sporting quality and environmental balance.

About the hosts

Shoot days at BTGS are typically hosted by the Syndicate Leaders, with the Chairman & Director often present, supported by our experienced keeper and shoot-day team to ensure everything runs smoothly.

The atmosphere is relaxed, friendly and inclusive, reflecting the club’s strong military, civilian and community roots. Days are well organised, with clear communication and attention to detail, but without unnecessary formality.

Whether attending as a syndicate member or a guest, Guns can expect a welcoming environment where camaraderie is central, and where both experienced Shots and those newer to the sport feel equally at ease.

Having first shot with the Bulford and Tidworth Garrison Shoot (BTGS) some 50 years ago as a young officer in the Army, I am now delighted, having left the Army 30 years ago, to have renewed my relationship with the Shoot. The shooting offered is varied over some of the wildest terrain on the Salisbury Plain military training area you can imagine. Standing on your peg, waiting for the Drive to start, you may be entertained by military parachute drops, low-flying helicopters or a squadron of tanks deploying in the distance. And then the birds, Pheasant, Partridge and sometimes Duck, start flying. Some drives are spectacular with enough variety to suit all ‘Shots’, as you wait for that opportunity to take that challenging high pheasant or a ‘right and left’ as a covey of Patridge whistle past. The Keeper’s whistle goes, you sleeve your gun and pick up the birds around you before ambling back to the transport to exchange stories on those memorable successful shots, while preparing your excuses for the ones you missed. For this is what it is all about, the friendship, the camaraderie and the repartee as you enjoy that slug of Sloe Gin before moving off to the next drive. The BTGS offers it all – real enjoyment amongst friends.

An absolute pleasure to be able to shoot on the Bulford and Tidworth Garrison Shoot twice this season. The topography in which you present birds is breath taking along with the quality of birds presented. A shoot that really caters for everyone. It was so refreshing seeing new guns shooting for their first time, as well as watching seasoned guns shoot some really challenging birds. A welcoming shoot full of camaraderie and military spirit. It is quite something when you finish a drive and pair of Apache helicopters crest the horizon!
