Pheasant

The Dickhurst shoot is situated on the Surrey / West Sussex border, between the villages of Northchapel and Chiddingfold. Within an hour's drive of Central London.

A well established family shoot, managed and run by the Baker family for well over a century, with challenging drives providing excellent sport. The shoot has been the preserve of the family and friends for generations, but the opportunity has arisen to acquire a "Let Day" on the estate.

The family have always insisted that their sport should be fun, and enjoyed with like minded souls. Guests always comment on the relaxed and informal atmosphere, and the fact that these are major attributes of the shoot.

Days range from 100 to 225 birds. The quarry is primarily pheasants which are presented from a variety of challenging drives. Teams of 8 to 10 guns can be accomodated, and young guns are very welcome. "Back guns" can be added. We are very flexible !!

The family have always stopped for lunch on shoot days, and return to the family house for tea at the end of the day's sport. Lunch can either be taken at the family home, or in a Private Room at the excellent Noah's Ark pub in Lurgershall.

Elevenses, which grows in stature (?!) year on year, is taken in the field between drives.

A gem of a family shoot within easy reach of London, the Baker family will guarantee a warm and friendly welcome to visiting sportsmen and women.

George Baker, who trains racehorses nearby at the Robins Farm racing stables, manages the family shoot. And would be delighted to discuss the days, and to tailor according to your needs. Pricing is extremely competitive.

Hospitality

The Baker family pride ourselves on welcoming with open arms all those who join us to enjoy the unique nature of our family shoot. A relaxed and informal atmosphere permeates the rhythm of the day. "Elevenses" is famous in these parts - with my Brother-in-Law's Rhubarb Vodka helping to break the ice at all parties. And "tea" very often drifts well past darkness. Hey ho....

Topography

Sussex Woodland and strategic game crop planting and management ensure a wide variety of drives. Your day can be tailored to accommodate all levels of experience - and we are delighted to see young guns in the line. There is a very long list of those who have shot their first birds on the Dickhurst Estate.

Conservation Efforts

We work very closely with our tenant farmers to ensure that the integrity and beauty of this stunning part of the country is responsibly managed and retained. We are proud to form part of the South Downs National Park.

About the hosts

George and Candida Baker love nothing more than entertaining - the Shoot was recently described as an "Armed Cocktail Party".....!? An alluring combination of sporting birds aligned with fun and informality. A gem of a shoot - with George's mother Lally hosting a superb elevenses. Ably assisted by George's sister Muffy and her husband Charlie Spencer. The fact that teams return year on year has to be a positive....!!
