The wood shoot has been owned by the Yates family since their ancestors helped Charles II hide in the oak tree to escape from William Cromwell at Boscobel. Boscobel House is situated on the edge of the Estate with the Royal Oak tree upon the land, Whiteladies Priory and Monarchs Way are also on the estate. Francis Yates helped Charles II to escape via Whiteladies Priory, Boscobel House, Royal Oak tree and the Monarchs Way. The woodland on this Estate is a residue of the forest from this time, with parts being classed as ancient woodland.

The shoot was started in the late 1950's after Major Yates returned from the war. The gamekeeper started working for Major Yates in 1989/90 season and has since worked for 3 generations of the Yates family including the current owner of the shoot Mr Simon Yates.

The Estate covers 1200 acres surrounding a Georgian house which is situated in East Shropshire on the border with Staffordshire, just off junction 3 of the M54.
