The Primland European Style Driven Pheasant Shoot features six to ten gun lines with three morning and three afternoon drives, each unique in nature and challenge. Meeting the level of every gunner, Primland features 12 different drives arranged across the ravines of our vast woodland. A few examples of our drives include:
Bunker Hill Drive features high birds appearing over the top of tall pine trees right upon the shooter.
Lime Pile Drive presents very tall pheasants that shooters can see approaching from a high ridge top.
Split Crop and Horse Lot Drives offer birds in moderate range.
Powell Ridge Drive greatly test the participants shooting skills.
Shooting pegs are located in deep valleys. Each drive lasts about 30 minutes to one hour, with Ringneck pheasants constantly flushed towards the gunning line. Loaders and dog handlers, dressed in proper attire, await to assist you, whether you are shooting one gun or pairs. All of our loaders ensure safe shooting and conduct in addition to taking care of the gunner and their equipment so you never run out of ammo at the peg.
Properly attired shooters will be paired with loaders to assist with single gun or gun pairs. Field slips are needed and can be provided by Primland. Side-by-side and over/under shotguns are the tradition in this sport but autoloaders are allowed as long as only two cartridges are loaded at a time. Ammunition is limited to #5 fine shot or smaller and can be purchased on site. Safe and courteous shooting is key. While shooters may share pegs and load for each other, due to safety concerns a Primland loader will be assigned in addition.
Price is based on gun line size and release or daily bag will be subject to gun line size, if less than 10 gunners.
Hospitality
Situated at the apex of the property, The Lodge at Primland offers its guests a refined resort experience. Sophisticated in style and spectacular in scale, the cedar and stone Lodge features 26 guestrooms and suites, each with a distinctive floor plan. Primland’s Fairway Cottages feature cathedral ceilings, hardwood floors, Tennessee field stone fireplaces and private decks with panoramic views of the valley below. Primland’s Mountain Homes are perched along ridges and tucked into hillsides, offering a taste of mountain living at its best for larger groups or families.

Primland's terrain is rich with game. Within Virginia’s Blue Ridge Mountains, the hilly topography and woodland of Primland provide a premiere setting for Driven Pheasant Shooting that is comparable to the best in the United Kingdom.

Our highly trained staff is dedicated to your safety, comfort and success. Instruction, loaner guns and ammunition are all available at the South Gate Reception and Primland Outfitters Shop. Bird cleaning and transporting services are available for an additional fee.
