The day begins with tea or coffee and a bacon roll — a simple, familiar start that reflects the way we’ve always done things. After the second drive, everyone gathers in the shoot room for elevenses, where beaters and guns mix together in the same easy, homely way they have for generations. Sausage rolls, game pie, cakes, English sparkling wine and sloe gin are all part of the spread, made to feel more like a family table than a formal break.

Following the fourth or fifth drive, the guns return to the shoot lodge for pre‑lunch drinks and a relaxed two‑course lunch with wine. Between the main course and dessert, we keep to tradition with a friendly sweep, where the guns guess the day’s bag and shot totals before the head keeper reveals the final numbers.

FH Sporting delivers the kind of shooting that feels firmly rooted in the land itself — pheasants lifting from the woodland edges and partridges skimming fast over maize covers and old Suffolk hedgerows. It’s all shaped by the natural lay of our ground, kept simple, traditional, and true to the way shoots have been run in this part of the countryside for generations.

The topography is classic Suffolk countryside, with gentle rolling valleys and open farmland shaping the character of the shoot. We take pride in presenting strong, well‑flown birds throughout the day, with drives designed to make the most of the natural lay of the land.

FH Sporting manages the estates with a hands‑on approach, looking after field margins, wild bird covers and woodlands to support habitat creation and healthy game populations. The ground is worked with care, keeping the landscape productive, varied and rich in wildlife so the shoot remains rooted in the natural character of Suffolk countryside.

Your hosts for the day will be the head keeper, who oversees the running of the shoot, along with the shoot owner, who will accompany the guns in our very comfortable guns trailer and place each gun on their peg for every drive.

All Saints Church in Frostenden, Suffolk, is a remarkable Grade I listed building, distinguished by its rare round tower dating from the Saxon or early Norman period, placing its origins before the 11th century. The main body of the church is largely 13th‑century, complemented by a 15th‑century south aisle and a characterful 17th‑century interior. Above the south door sits an unusual 18th‑century sundial inscribed with “vigilate et orate” — Watch and Pray — a striking detail that adds to the church’s historic charm.
