Pheasant
Partridge

The Euston Estate, owned by the Duke of Grafton, comprises over 10,500 acres of woods and arable land. Over the centuries, the Estate has been laid out specifically for sporting purposes and has some superb valleys for driving high partridge. We have had a very successful rearing season and all birds were released early to wood and cover. Careful monitoring of bloodlines is carried out at the beginning of every season to ensure a strong, high flying bird.

A small number of full team days (8 or 9 guns) are usually available. Bag numbers range from 200 - 300 bird days consisting of partridge and pheasant.

The day begins at 9 am at Euston Hall. Guns are served with bacon rolls, tea and coffee. The gun bus collects the team and takes them to the first drive. Four drives are usually shot before lunch. Refreshments during the morning are provided. Lunch is served in the Old Kitchen at the Hall. Two further drives take place after lunch, with tea available at the end of the day.

We are able to offer accommodation for Guns and Guests on the Estate in our self-catering holiday cottage and shoot rooms.

Please do not hesitate to contact us for more information.

Point of interest: In 1902 the Euston Estate became famous for the invention of 'The Euston System' of rearing partridges. This consisted of taking eggs, as fast as they were laid, from gamebirds in hedgerows, replacing them with pot eggs. The eggs were then put under bantams. Once the real eggs had pipped they were then taken back to a nest in the wild, where a bird had been sitting for approximately 2 weeks, for successful hatching. This system was soon copied by other shoots and was in use for many years.
