Shooting at Ampton

There are 70 pheasant and partridge drives on this 6,500 acre estate and the topography is gently sloping with one or two nice valleys. There are some good hedges and 500 acres of lovely woodland together with the 90 acre lake. The 150 acres of cover crop are sited to show the best possible birds. The days shoot fee for driven days includes tea/coffee on arrival, a mid morning drinks break and a cooked main meal with a light secondary meal. We meet at 8.45 a.m. at Livermere Hall where you are sure of a warm welcome. We have 4 full time game keepers to ensure that the shoot days run smoothly, and hopefully the day feels more like a private family shoot.

Duck shooting in Suffolk on the Ampton estate. 90 acre lake stretching for 1.5 miles through attractive woodland. Shooting butts are mostly accessed by walkways out over the water to provide the best possible duck shooting. The species are mainly mallard with a sprinkling of diving ducks, plus wigeon and teal. Greylag and Canada geese are also likely to feature in the bag.

Shooting can be morning or evening flights, with breakfast in Livermere Hall after the morning flights. There are many butts, so any number of guns up to 14 can be entertained. The butts are mostly 150-300 yards apart and the wildfowl flight rather than circle round and round.

Complete parties or individuals are all welcome and if desired the duck shooting could be followed or preceded by game shooting.

The cost of duck shooting is £17 per bird and driven game is £32 per bird for bags of 200 or more birds and £33.00 per bird for bags 150-199 birds. Full hospitality is included in the driven day prices.

Mr. John Kitchener

I had booked for an evening duck flight and a game shoot next day. Unfortunately, the lake was frozen but keeper Alan found me a pond and I was able to shoot enough ducks. Nice comfortable night in The Hall, followed by a superb full breakfast. The weather was really bright with NO wind so birds didn't want to fly well. Fortunately, none of the guns wanted to fill the bag (thank you Guys!) with simple birds so the scoring was slow to start. Alan didn't panic, didn't make excuses, just selected drives to suit the low sun and slipped in one or two extra drives. After a super lunch he produced a couple more drives, loaded with birds, so we guns could select the better birds and we almost filled the target, as near as made no difference. Great day under difficult conditions - brilliant work!!

Mr. Colin Baldry

This was my first time here joining a very friendly and welcoming team of guns most of which had shot Ampton before, although they didn't all know each other. The day was hosted by keeper Alan Hammond who ran the day like clockwork duly assisted by a great beating team and I must say, some very efficient and diligent pickers up. Every drive produced quality birds, which were a good test for even the best shots and provided good sport down the entire line. Hospitality at Livermere Hall was also first class topping off a very enjoyable and memorable day. I have no hesitation in recommending this shoot and fully intend to take more days next season. Many thanks to Jane and Peter and their team at Mallard Barn

A great day to be had. Very professionally run with a "family shoot" atmosphere. Partridge days especially good.
