For more than three decades the Orvis Company has been steering customers to the finest wingshooting experiences and operators in existence. Orvis Endorsement requires that each destination/operator is thoroughly vetted, and remains committed to upholding the highest quality standards in the outdoor space. Customers can rest assured that when they visit an Orvis-endorsed destination, the Orvis Brand will stand behind the quality of the experience that is delivered. Orvis divides endorsed wingshooting destinations/operators into four distinct categories, namely Lodges, Hunting Grounds, Outfitters, and Guides. What follows is a definition of each:
Lodges: Each Orvis-endorsed lodge is vetted on an ongoing basis by our staff who've traveled and hunted extensively themselves, and have done the work and research for customers. Whether a shooter seeks ruffed grouse in Maine, or pheasant in South Dakota, the endorsed Lodge experience will provide exceptional lodging, dining, accommodation, access to ground, guiding, dog work, bird quality, and logistical planning. An Orvis-endorsed Lodge is committed to delivering the finest and most encompassing experince to the traveling shooter.
Grounds: The Orvis-endorsed Hunting Grounds are shooting and hunting preserves that offer the finest guided bird-shooting experience, but are not lodge and accommodation dependent. These grounds are for the hunter who simply wants a day in the field with access to great coverts, great dogs, and knowledgable and competent guides. Each of these grounds has been inspected by the Orvis staff to ensure the quality of the hunting experience. A variety of offerings from full-day to half-day with lunch and dinner, are available depending on the operation. Outfitters and Guides: Wild birds are not easy to find, but Orvis-endorsed wingshooting outfitters and guides specialize in the true wild-bird experience. These operators pursue birds on both public and private land, and their quest is not for numbers of birds, but the opportunity to share time in places untouched by man's heavy hands. Outfitters and guides are driven to find birds in their natural habitats, experiencing fair-chase hunting in its purest form. Outfitters typically operate with a string of guides, whereas independent guides are typically sole operators.
Hospitality
Hospitality and service are of paramount importance to Orvis. Orvis rigorously vets each destination to ensure a quality service experience.
Topography
Orvis endorses wingshooting experiences across the globe, with the vast majority being in the continental US. Depending on region and species pursued, the topography can be wildly variable.
About the hosts
Each destination has a host or a point person, typically an owner or general manager. This person sees to it that all guest needs are met, and that the quality of the experience is maintained at a high standard.
