Partridge

Las Golondrinas has been made famous by the Bustamante family for generations. Now with the addition of wonderful deep and rocky canyon type valleys, it is considered by many to be 'as good as it gets'. Covering many thousands of hectares, the wild bird population is augmented by a limited release programme in the summer. I have shot on more than 15 different Spanish shoots; this is consistently my favourite. One excellent aspect is that you do not have to commit to normal Spanish Bag sizes (500+). The Bustamantes are keen to promote smaller bag sizes - ie 300. Whilst extra birds are charged at E30 each, an individual account is kept for each gun so that you don't suffer if your neighbour catches a bout of red-mist-itis! If you haven't shot in Spain before, here is a great opportunity to tick tha box

Hospitality

A regular breakfast is followed by a day of 4 or 5 drives - each interspersed a delicious taco - chorizo, jamon, olives, cheese accompanied by a chilled manzanilla - or water if you insist. There is also a wonderful lunch provided 'in the field' usually a succession of wonderful tapas followed by something more substantial. A long lunch in an olive grove, in 20c temperatures, is one of life's more spoiling pastimes. For accommodation, we will be using the Parador at Trujillo http://www.parador.es/en/paradores/parador-de-trujillo?gclid=EAIaIQobChMIk_jmqMuw3gIVEcayCh37ywvUEAAYASAAEgJMNPD_BwE&gclsrc=aw.ds

Topography

Deep rocky canyons form the majority of the drives, although some of the more rolling country can show incredibly sporting birds. Unlike their British cousins, the Spanish partridges flare up when danger is spotted and you can shoot a right and left of a long low crosser followed by a 40 yarder over your head, even on the less spectacular ground

About the hosts

No hosts are more charming, more hospitable and more generous than the Spanish in general and the Bustamantes in particular. Fernando and his son Jacobo (mid 40s) run an excellent operation. They have graced many of England's finest moors, so are very aware of how we Brits like to be looked after.
