Guns arrive on Sunday at the Bloemfontein Airport in South Africa. Transfer to the lodge, 30 min by road. For the next 2 full days you will be entertained by 7 million Rock pigeons as they fly from the city to the ripening sunflower fields where guns are placed directly under their flight lines. Guns can expect to shoot between 250 and 500 shots per day, testing your skills on every shot in the book. Early Season shoots tend to be better for pigeon shooting. On day 4 we will transfer to the bushveld of the Molopo (about 5 hours by road) where guns will experience the best Afro-European style, driven Guineafowl shooting in Africa. During Day 5 and 6 you will be entertained by a beater line of 50 Africans singing and chanting while driving hundreds of Guineafowl and some Francolin over the line of guns, whom will be placed meticulously for the best shooting opportunities. 6 to 7 drives per day makes for good shooting and the party can expect to bag in excess of 150 Guineafowl per day. Field lunches are served around midday. Beverages and snacks are served during the shoot. Dinners at the lodge are memorable. On day 7 guns will transfer back to Johannesburg (a 5 hour trip by road) for a evening flight back home. Charter flights are an option if guns want to cut back on driving time. A world class driven dove shoot is available at an additional cost if the guns are chartering.
Hospitality
This shoot includes very comfortable en-suite lodgings, meals prepared in a colonial style and beverages. Alcoholic beverages are included. Snacks and beverages will be offered during the shoot.
Topography
The Pigeon and Doves are shot on the plains of the Freestate, and is known for its flat topography, and never ending grasslands. The grasslands are broken up by Sunflower and Maize/Corn fields, some in access of 500 hectares. These fields attract millions of Pigeons and Doves from afar. The driven Guineafowl shoot takes place in the enchanting Molopo region of South Africa. The Molopo is wedged between the Southern Kalahari in the West and the Western Transvaal bushveld in the East. The topography is mostly flat, with sandy soils and grasslands, interspersed with medium high indigenous trees. Cultivated lands of Sunflower, Maize and Peanuts provide ensure ample food sources for Guineafowl, Francolin and Doves.
Conservation Efforts
These are totally wild populations of Guineafowl and Francolin, no more than 30% of a population is harvested per annum. Guns can expect to see between 1000 and 2000 Guineafowl being driven per day and a bag in excess of 150 birds per day, depending on the number of guns and their level of shooting.
