African Driven Guineafowl Shoot

Arguably the finest driven shoot available in South Africa. Join us for an exhilarating driven shoot amidst the splendour of the African savannah. Thousands of wild Guineafowl—along with a occational showing of Francolin and Spurfowl—will be expertly driven, in military precision, over a line of eight guns stationed at well-considered pegs.
A team of fifty beaters, drawn from two grateful local communities, will flush these entirely wild game birds over the awaiting line. Each gun is assigned a personal bird boy to assist at the peg and to retrieve downed birds.
The programme typically includes six drives per day, providing ample opportunity for sport. A bag of 250 birds per day is aimed for, and often exceeded.
A field lunch is served around midday, with refreshments and light fare provided during the shoot. Accommodation is in classic African safari style—individual thatched chalets, each with en-suite facilities. All meals are included.
Guns are welcome to extend their stay with additional shooting days or alternative quarry, by prior arrangement.
Hospitality
You’ll be treated to the very best of South African cuisine — a true culinary delight.

Birds
A driven Guineafowl shoot offers thrilling and demanding sport. These entirely wild birds flush fast and low, flying with surprising speed and stealth, evading the guns at every turn. Their pace is often underestimated due to their size. Birds may slip through cover and rise unexpectedly, demanding quick reflexes, sharp fieldcraft, and instinctive shooting. When driven properly over a line of pegs, Guineafowl offer exhilarating shooting — reminiscent of pheasant, yet with a distinctly African flair. A truly sporting bird for the discerning Gun.
Topography
The shooting area offers gently undulating savannah terrain with open grasslands, acacia thornveld, and occasional ridgelines. The firm ground and sparse undergrowth make for easy walking and ideal conditions for driven shooting. Extensive cultivated lands of Sunflowers, Maize, and Peanuts provide abundant natural food, supporting high numbers of wild Guineafowl, Francolin, and Spurfowl. With minimal shooting pressure, the area offers superb bird numbers and sporting flight lines.
Conservation Efforts
Our shooting season runs from late May to early September, which falls outside the birds’ usual breeding period. Bird numbers are monitored from March to support responsible planning, with no more than 30% of the wild Guineafowl and Francolin population taken annually. Drives typically feature 2,000 to 3,000 birds per day—an unforgettable sight. Bag limits are generous yet carefully regulated to ensure ethical harvesting. Birds taken are enjoyed as part of your safari experience, while surplus game is respectfully distributed among beaters and neighbouring rural families—ensuring nothing goes to waste and the surrounding community benefits fully.
