Most of you will know us for our driven duck and rightly so, but we are temporarily giving the duck shooting a break and concentrating our time into driven partridge. We are based on the Devon and Somerset border. covering approximately 1000 acres. The partridge drives are all within a short distance of the farm so no long drives in between shooting so you can make the most of the social side of the day. Guns with dogs are welcome as we know that it can be as important working your dog as the actual shooting itself. We encourage sharing pegs with friends and family.
We will be selling another day this season. The 17th October is now availably preferably full team 150 birds ideally 8 guns but can stand 10 £45 per bird full team £6,750 with 50% deposit on booking with the remainder payable 1st of September.
If this is of interest to you drop an email or call.
We had Mr Carrie out with us last season the video is on youtube search Broadways Farm Shoot.
Hospitality
In Sept early Oct we will meet in the garden area in front the house and as the weather turns we have a shoot room with a bar, log burner and kitchen for everyone. The shoot days are a team effort all beaters, pickers, stops and flaggers mix with the guns without them we would not enjoy the sport we do.
Birds
Traditional style partridge using the contours of the ground to our advantage. One of the drives we leave until the later part of the season as it acts as a safe space for the birds to hold. A couple drives are able to be done in reverse when needed again generally later in the season. We are all quite excited about a new drive for this year out of a old quarry.
Topography
The shoot is in an area of high quarrying activity some very old and some existing creating an array of man made features and topography with very little of the land being how it was many years ago. The soil is red and sandy the partridge like this to dust themselves off in. We dont claim to have the highest partridge due to not being in short steep valleys but we do have nice banks and rolling land that the partridge come racing over you from. Blink and you have missed them but there will be more so stay focused. Some of the drives can and will be done in reverse later on in the season. The Jungle is a drive that shouldn't work backwards, but it does and well. The guns quietly sneak down behind a bank and a hedge that is actually higher up than the cover crop this drive is snap shooting.
Conservation Efforts
We feed tonnes of wild bird seeds over the course of the season come the depths of winter you can really see the amount of sparrows, buntings and finches. We still have a few resident grey partridge about from 3 years they show up every now and again.
About the hosts
Dave and James started the shoot nearly 10 years ago as a small walk about releasing 350 birds. Every year improving and growing once releasing up to 10,000 birds with a mixture pheasant, Partridge and Duck. now slightly downsizing with around 6 / 7k partridge and a scattering of pheasant.

Mr. Robert Fear
Short on guns on the day unfortunately, but birds were reduced pro rata. The welcome and food were excellent and the guys went out of their way to accommodate the requirements of the team of guns. Two good drives followed by the third which was something to experience - 4 guns shooting on individual pontoons in the middle of the lake and 2 on dry land. A great day, well worth the money.
