Apley Park Shoot has been listed in the Shooting Gazette as one of Britain's top ten pheasant shoots. It is a traditional pheasant shoot on an ancient family estate. The shoot is run primarily as a family shoot and retains the high quality of sport and entertainment that it has been renowned for for over a century.
The shoot is organised over two separate beats, one in Apley Park & Apley Terrace in the River Severn valley which is perfect terrain for game shooting as well as being one of the most beautiful landscapes in England. The other is centred on the River Worfe which has carved out stunning sandstone escarpments making for truly memorable pheasant shooting. We shoot 10 times on each beat over the season to give the birds time to fully recover between shoots.
We are extremely lucky to have the Apley Terrace, a sandstone escarpment which follows the River Severn and is completely wooded. This provides fantastic habitat for pheasants and enables us to show a great variety of sporting birds including snap shots, diving and curling birds as well as simply high birds. The objective has always been to make the birds as wild as possible. The Horseshoe drive is one of the most famous. Birds are driven over a natural amphitheatre where clumps of sweet chestnut, planted over 200 years ago help lift the birds to the limit of range.
The primary quarry is pheasant, but there are a number of reared & wild partridges shown which add to the high quality & variety of challenges for the keen sportsman. Apley Park offers 200 bird days for eight guns.
The shoot team comprises of two beat keepers and a loyal and experienced team of beaters and pickers up who have mostly been coming to Apley for many years. This friendly team contributes to a fun and memorable day.
Guns are transported in their own vehicles on decent quality estate roads. 4WDs are preferable though not essential.
Days are hosted by a member of the Hamilton family & lunch is taken in Lady Hamilton’s house & dining room in the middle of the day. As well as delicious and fresh home cooked food, the shoot is renowned for its excellent cheeseboard sourced from Apley farm shop.
At the end of the day tea and homemade cakes are served and guns are presented with oven ready birds..
Accommodation can be arranged either in the Hundred House, a very well appointed local pub restaurant, or in the Apley Estate’s luxury self catering holiday houses.
Hospitality
Fully catered lunch and tea for up to 16 guests in very well appointed Apley Park Dining Room.
Topography
Apley Park & Terrace is a hidden valley with stunning hanging woos over the River Severn. The Terrace / escarpment is used to site amazing woodland drives with challenging high & fast pheasants. The Parkland is stunning scenery with Apley Hall in the background, the wooded knolls are used to produce excellent quality birds. The Bromley beat used sandstone valleys on the River Worfe & surrounding area to show excellent pheasants & partridges driven over the valleys.
Conservation Efforts
All the woodland is in a Woodland stewardship scheme where rides are maintained for wildlife. Apley Park is subject to a Parkland Management Plan . There are numerous cover crops & hedge enhancements across the estate.
About the hosts
Lord Hamilton hosts many of the days. If this is not possible the host is Tim Main, former chairman of GWCT Shropshire.

One of the finest shoots in Shropshire or anywhere else for that matter. Beautiful countryside and spectacular birds.

I have shot at Apley for over 20 years and would rank it among the most exicting days pheasant shooting I have had. The topography is near perfect for challenging birds and the woods are grand and mature. The estate is not overshot and retains a welcoming non commercial feel. Anybody wanting top pheasant shooting in the welsh marches could not choose better than Apley Park. Edward Foster
