Deer

Strathbran is a traditional, family owned and run Highland sporting estate set in the spectacular hills of Wester Ross. The estate has been owned and managed by the same family since the 1880s.

The Estate offers guests the chance to stalk sika stags and hinds in our extensive woodlands (and on the woodland fringes) and red hinds traditionally on the open hill. The terrain is varied and exciting with the woodlands being a mix of open, native woodland and commercial spruce plantations. The hill ground includes steep faces, corries and broad open moorland and on clear days is possible to see all the way from Ben Wyvis on the East coast to Slioch on Loch Maree on the West Coast.

The wildlife is rich and varied and during your visit, you may be lucky enough to catch a glimpse of several red listed species of bird which the estate is working to conserve, including Black Grouse, Hen Harriers and Curlews as well as others such as Golden Eagles, Sea Eagles and Wood Sandpipers. We also have a population of Mountain Hares, Pine Martens and the occasional otter.

Our stalking is carried out traditionally with deer extraction being by dragging, or where possible, quad bike.

Guests will be accompanied by our full-time professional stalker who will be responsible for every aspect of your day.

Topography

Stalking on the open hill at Strathbran is not hugely challenging in a physical sense, but a basic level of fitness is recommended. The vast majority of the estate can only be accessed from close to sea level, so a certain amount of walking is required and there are sections which are steep. Once up on the tops, the views are truly spectacular and will create memories to last a lifetime.
