Pheasant
Partridge

Allangrange Estate Shoot is located on the picturesque Black Isle, six miles from Inverness, and fifteen minutes from the airport  [which is used to dealing with guns and rods!].

The shoot is run over a mixture of undulating farmland, woodland and grass park.
Drives of note are "The Turnips" where a mixture of pheasant and partridge are driven over the guns early in the day. The bag from this drive alone can be up to 150 in late November/early December. The "Dog Leg" drive is another favourite - guns have a long time to focus on the birds which climb steeply. The "Pigs" and "Policy Park" drives are also a lot of fun along with the "Moor Bridge" drive, which has been newly thinned to allow the birds to get up quicker and fly higher! The birds present an entertaining day for the experienced shot as well as those who are new to the sport.

The shoot is run by Allangrange's owner, Alex Rutherford, along with head gamekeeper, Scot Nicol, who are assisted by a very friendly, regular, team of beaters.
The joy of Allangrange is that it is one of the most social and entertaining shoots to visit. You will be fed and watered to your heart's content all day and banter is also high on the menu. Coffee and sausage sandwiches are provided in the main house on arrival. Elevenses are extensive and you may find it hard to drag yourself out of the newly constructed log cabin by the trout pond. Lunch can also be provided in the log cabin on request. Allangrange shoot-through to lunch, so you can relax and enjoy the craic for as long as you wish!

For inexperienced shots we are able to provide very experienced loaders/coaches who are terribly friendly and encouraging.
Allangrange rear their own pheasants and French partridge, which are a common French ring neck and black neck. This year a total of 6000 birds have been put down to be shot over a total of 8 days. We also supply birds to a number of neighbouring estates.

Allangrange Shoot is a very good value day out for fabulous sport, relaxed hosts, beautiful surroundings and good craic.

Numbers: Pheasant/Partridge Mix Numbers to be agreed on contact - days can be arranged from 80 to 300 birds.

Guns are welcome to bring their dogs as long as they behave better than the owner's terrier, Nessie.

My 3rd year visiting this shoot and I very much hope many more follow. The running of the day by the owner, the keepers and the many others assisting beating and picking up was extremely good and undertaken in a relaxed professional manner adding to the overall enjoyment of the day. High quality pheasant and partridge were presented to the team of guns, which mostly consisted of experienced shots who very much appreciated the efforts made by Alex, Scott and the rest of the team. I'd urge anyone considering a day in Inverness-shire to give Allangrange a call and experiance it for themselves. I'd recommend anyone looking for

Our team of guns thoroughly enjoyed shooting on both outings arranged with shoot staff. Booking and arranging was easy and stress free thanks to management's attitude towards flexibility and range of options available for shoot days. Certainly no shortage of birds - flying at good sporting height and of very good quality. Shoot days booked for later this year/early next year already - looking forward to our next visit!

This was my third visit to Alan Grange and every year I enjoy more and more that the quality of the birds show on my visit on 25 January were too good for a 69-year-old who doesn't shoot too often but I could hesitate To recommend this to anybody this reading this review

Mr. Will Porter

It was my good fortune to be invited to this shoot by a good friend. The welcome by the owner is second to none. He and his head keeper gave us a professional shoot. The quality of the birds on the day showed the high quality of the shoot management. 70 birds were shot on the first drive. To get a bag of such quality indicates the experience of the shots, most of whom - like myself - have been shooting for the last 50 years. All of the guns, with the exception of a junior who had come along with his father and has a bit to learn of gun etiquette, were experienced shots. I hope I receive another invite to return next year!

On what one would have thought was a perfect shooting day, a nice breeze and overcast; I've never seen such poorly presented birds. The shoot manager/owner decided he would back gun on every drive, which on a paid day is very unprofessional. Said owner pointed out several times throughout the day how well the birds were flying today, as last year was a disaster. I shudder think just how poor the quality of shooting was last year! I had the misfortune of joining a team who were happy to shoot at whatever came, 70 birds were shot in the first drive alone and there was perhaps 3 birds worth lifting the gun to! Very disappointed, if this shoot was a representation of game shooting in Scotland I'd hand my guns in, overall I wouldn't shoot here again if I was paid to!
