Hospitality
Shooting is about enjoyment and escapism, so we put real effort into making every moment memorable. Our elevenses and lunches are thoughtfully planned and a little bit inventive, served either in the shoot hut, out on the hill, or in a nearby pub during the colder months—wherever the weather and the day’s atmosphere lead us.
Birds
High-flying, driven partridge shooting is one of the most exhilarating challenges you'll find at Harpton. Birds rocket over the line with astonishing speed, lifted by the wind and the contours of the land, demanding sharp reflexes and instinctive shooting. It’s a test of timing, precision, and calm under pressure—where every flush of wings brings a surge of adrenaline and the promise of a truly sporting shot. We also have a blend of ducks in one of our drives and the option to shoot some pheasants at another. There's something for everyone!
Topography
Grouse are both driven and walked-up across the heather moorland, while partridges burst from the bracken on the steep sides as the moor falls away to farmland. A series of duck pools scattered across the high ground draw in wild teal and mallard, adding to the variety of sport. Woodcock and snipe reside and migrate here too.
Conservation Efforts
Caring for our grouse moor is a year‑round conservation effort that shapes the most iconic upland landscapes. Careful heather management, predator control, and the creation of diverse habitats supports not only healthy grouse populations but a wide range of wildlife. Moorland drainage is restored, peat is protected, and controlled burning and cutting encourages a mosaic of young and old heather that benefits everything from waders to pollinators. This stewardship helps preserve rare upland ecosystems, enhances biodiversity, and keeps these wild places thriving for generations.
About the hosts
The shoot is run by a dedicated family with a genuine passion for shooting and conservation, investing significant time and resources into bringing Welsh grouse back to prominence. Aaron, our full‑time head keeper and estate manager, hosts every shoot day with a level of care and enthusiasm that sets the tone from the moment you arrive. His deep knowledge of the moor, calm organisation, and easy sense of humor ensure the day runs seamlessly, allowing guests to relax into the experience. Under his guidance, each drive becomes more than just a sporting challenge—it becomes a day of shared laughter, great company, and unforgettable moments out on the hill.

I have shot here several times over the last few years - and shot the full gambit duck, grouse, partridge, snipe.. (all in one day on one occasion) the topography on the Welsh/English border is fantastic, you won't be disappointed by the views. It is very well organised by Aaron and there some stunning high partridges. It really is a super day and worth a visit. The Harp at Radnor is also a fabulous pub for dinner and post shoot drinks !

This was the best shoot I have ever been on. The host was truly excellent and so was the shooting. The pegs were wonderfully placed, I especially liked the latest edition drive (gillworm valley). It had fantastic fast and high partridges. The scenery was stunning. For lunch we were served exquisite food, however, dinner was even better. All in all I would highly recommend this shoot to all. It is a must in my book.

You have created a brilliant and original shoot from a standing start, culminating with that completely spectacular - and admirably prolific - final drive in the gorge. You are right to call them hill partridges because they are definitely different and special. Sharper, faster and much more varied. In the first drive there were twos and threes, large coveys, low birds, high birds, stratospheric birds, all flying with serious intent. For your let days you are selling something unique and special. I think you should take care not to equate it in your write-ups with a “normal” shoot. The cliffs are much steeper and the scenery far more spectacular. You are providing good sport and excellent food and drink in quite a dramatic wild setting. That’s your USP. It’s for the discerning people who enjoy good company in the great outdoors and appreciate something different from the pampered lowland shoots.

Our team had an absolutely fantastic day here and after last year there was a lot to live up to. Sadly it was a bright and sunny day but this did not stop the partridge from flying well and it took our team a while on the first drive to adapt to the speed and height of the birds. The second drive presented some truly challenging birds on the right of the line whilst on the left the birds came through like grouse - exhilarating. Still one of the best partridge drives I have shot, Penbedw Rocks was awesome with beautifully presented partridge spread across the line with plenty of birds to test all abilities. Lunch outdoors ticked all the 'socially distanced' boxes in a stunning setting and we were generously looked after. The final drive did not disappoint and I think I speak for our whole team that is was truly memorable day and we immediately booked in for next year. A big thank you to the Keeper and his team for looking after us so well.

Standard of the birds presented here is outstanding. Very testing partridges, killable, but not for the faint hearted. Variety of drives in spectacular surroundings, varying from very high driven to snap shooting across narrow valleys. Thoroughly recommended.
