Mr. Eugene Joyce

Delayed review actual Driven Shoot Day Saturday January 4 2025. Came to Shoot as a single gun joining a syndicate of 8 with 2 single guns added. The staff were excellent for a first time shooter of driven game explaining clearly all the safety rules, how the day schedule was setup, introducing me to syndicate members as they arrived before the peg selections we started about 8:45 for 1st drive. Since I was traveling from USA and I chose rent gun, they provided a quality 12 gauge O/U rental gun and gamebore shells. First 2 pegs they had a staff member behind the new single guns to offer suggestions on positioning, where the birds would most likely fly, and fields of fire so it made the initial pegs easier to adjust to versus the rough shooting I am use to doing. We did 2 valley layouts w/high birds mostly at least 30 yards up and fast flying about equal pheasants and partridge. Then had elevenies at the meeting building with sandwiches, pastries and sloe gin if you wanted it. The next 2 drives were more on level ground with birds coming out fast and lower so took many of the shots going away to avoid shooting over the beaters these drives more pheasants, some woodcock and couple of ducks as their were streams/ponds in the area being driven. Then headed back to lodge for great lunch, hot tea to ward-off morning frost and some very good conversation w/syndicate members. I did not realize that driven shoots were as tiring as I experienced. After lunch asked shoot manager if I could give my places in last 2 drives to a young man who was observing his father and 2 brothers shooting and the shoot leader was good with the change. Summary excellent first time driven shoot, couple of different field types, different species based on fields covered, good group of shooters for welcoming, staff was excellent. Will return and can recommend this shoot. I stayed at Dunkeld House Hotel used on grounds clay lessons driven game, good rooms, spa and John Dickson Gun Mfg on-site.
