A traditional, run sporting Estate surrounding the local area of Burford and the Barringtons, known as ‘The Gateway’ to the Cotswolds. By utilising the natural landscape and extensive woodland, some of the Cotswolds highest, sporting pheasants and partridges are available for single and double gun days, across 27 drives. Bag size is typically 200 to 500. Novice and experienced guns, together with their dogs are welcome.
We have days available for both full teams and individual pegs.
Partridges are shown from well known drives including Bush field, Hollow Barn, Cuckoo Leys, Front Field, Snowfence, Belt and Market Wood. These drives succeed thanks to the tall trees, encouraging the birds to gain height and slide when in full flight over the valleys. Pheasant drives showing challenging birds from signatory drives including Katies, Boundary, Belt and Market Wood benefit from prevailing winds on a north facing bank over the river Windrush valley.
We are excited to have some new ground this season 2023/24 to show Partridges, again over tall trees on top of some steep sided valleys, adjoining the main shooting ground, taking the shoot up to over 3000 acres.
If you do not see the exact date, or bag size, you are looking for please do not hesitate to contact us; all days can be altered and tailored to meet your specifications. We sell a days shooting as a pre-agreed bag.
All Shot game is processed locally, with a complimentary brace supplied to the clients on the day, all other game is supplied to local retailers and wholesalers.
Hospitality
Lunch is typically served in a local Inn with exceptional dishes, which boasts roaring open fires, comfortable sofas. Alternatively lunch can be served from picnic hampers in the field or in one of the traditional dry stone barns with a local chef preparing Lunch on a BBQ.
Excellent accommodation can be arranged local to the estate in Burford, the Barringtons or surrounding villages.
Loaders, instructors, gun and vehicle hire are all available upon request.
Topography
Excellently maintained, and managed, woodland, game cover crops and grass strips providing exceptional habitat for game birds in the River Windrush valley. Wide, steep valleys and the tall trees encourage birds to gather speed and height during our drives. From the North bank drives guns will be provided with exceptional views of the Barringtons, Taynton and the Burford church spire.
Conservation Efforts
Most of the Estate is in a Countryside Steward Scheme, the Mid Tier and Sustainable farming incentive and have over 85 acres of cover crops growing in the winter, to include 42 ha of wild bird food, including Beetle Banks, Lapwing Plots, 4m and 6m grass margins, Enhanced Field Corners together with Floristically enhanced, Nectar Rich and Wild bird seed mixes.
About the hosts
During every shoot day a Host will accompany the Guns; their passion and knowledge of all field sports, some local history and the Estate is second to none, together with their friendly outlook this will help any guns settle into the Day.
Having managed this shoot successfully for over 25 years Head-Keeper Dean Harry and his professional team provide excellent sport encouraging different types of Birds to shoot using the wind and topography to show not just driven but also sliding birds to challenge the Guns, whilst possessing a genuine interest in all aspects of game and wildlife, the countryside and conservation.

Had a fantastic day at Little Barrington last Tuesday where I took a single peg for myself as a personal treat for my fiftieth birthday the following day. From the get-go it was apparent that the Little Barrington Shoot is a cut above other similar shoots and this manifested itself in a number of quite telling ways. Attractive rolling Cotswold country with enough gradient to make things interesting High quality birds (mainly partridge), driven steadily and well planned with adjustments for conditions (the wind got up ensuring some screamers) and guns' ability and mobility Professional and yet highly personable hosting by Dean, capably assisted by Nick who both made me feel very personally welcome and proud ion what they had to offer A1 catering support and drinkies from the team at the Lamb Inn both in the field for elevenses and at their lovely HQ for breakfast rolls and very good shoot lunch - all of whom were equally nice folk Strength in depth on the shoot including a progressive approach to both rearing and game processing and perhaps the most impressive dog team and pickers-up I've ever seen - led by Ricky (aka the Maharajah and his Wunderdogs) Our team of ten shot well on the day (just over 4:1) and Dean and Nick expertly managed collective expectations so that we finished on a real high at the end of the third drive and retired for an early excellent lunch at the Lamb with no fear of overage or couple of damp squib half-drives. Reading the mood of the room an essential and assured talent and we had all had a cracker. Having shot as a single peg at many other shoots over the years can happily give Little Barrington a ringing endorsement and will be definitely back soon - perhaps to embark on my first stalking assignment which they also offer.

Dean runs a superbly welcoming and enjoyable day; we as a loose syndicate have now been back for 3 years and look forward to every visit. Cracking birds, presented in a steady flow in lovely countryside. Catering can be arranged to suit, but be assured you won't want for anything at any point...

Little Barrington is a lovely set-up with a host family who were very involved and engaged with our team. The beaters were exceptionally well ran and organised, and the elevenses in the field were delightful. Plenty of birds around too. The only downside was that there was quite large distances between drives on the day but it really wasn't much of an issue. We had an extraordinary first drive which will always be memorable, and the team were all very positive. Thanks to Dean and the Mills family for a great day.
