Cranford Estate, a 1,000-acre Northamptonshire estate, is easily accessible from London (90 minute drive) and located between Oundle and Kettering. The estate consists mainly of arable farmland but with numerous woods and also rewilded ironstone quarry. Cranford Hall itself is the seat of the Robinson family and has been in the family ownership since its construction in the 18th century.

The shoot is not a "commercial" shoot with the focus purely on large scale game rearing and excessively high bag numbers. We pride ourselves on managing the Estate sympathetically for game but also encouraging biodiversity over peripheral farm habitats.

More information on the Estate can be found on our website.

Hospitality

Meet at the house for coffee and briefing. Elevenses are generally taken in the Halls stable block, usually after the second drive. This could include homemade soup, freshly sliced parma ham or salami, and of course sloe gin and Prosecco. Lunch is served at the Hall and cooked on site using locally sourced ingredients from the farm and surrounding area. A shoot tea is provided at the end of the day.

Topography

The estate is an arable farm but with several woods and spinneys. There is also a large ironstone quarry running through the middle of the estate. Our key drives utilise this old iron quarry which has been rewilded and provides outstanding shooting for experienced guns. We aim to provide some really challenging and interesting sport for the discerning sportsman.

Conservation Efforts

Cranford Estates is passionate about environmentally-responsible farming and we work hard to ensure that biodiversity at Cranford thrives alongside our farming practices. To this aim we joined the Environmental Stewardship (ES) scheme 10 years ago. This is a land management scheme in England which aims to secure widespread environmental benefits. In order to qualify for the scheme, we enacted a number of practices: Fiedl edge buffer strips and wild bird plots, sympathetic hedgerow maintenance, wild bird winter feeding, woodland management, rewilding of the Ironstone Quarry icluding the introduction of herbivores such as wild Soay Sheep. All of these activities create perfect conditions for game birds to breed chicks and we see a large number of wild clutches of partridge and pheasant.
