The Studley Royal Shoot provides an unparalleled sporting experience steeped in game shooting history. Situated in a stunning four-thousand-acre estate only twenty minutes from Harrogate, the Shoot offers three separate days of shooting with thirty-four drives.
Once the country seat of the 2nd Marquess of Ripon - long considered one of the finest shots in the land, with such sporting heritage, Studley Royal has become a favourite destination for those looking to stretch their shooting experiences.
The estate is the location of the twelfth-century Fountains Abbey, known as the largest Cistercian monastery in Europe, and the Jacobean mansion Fountains Hall. It is a designated UNESCO World Heritage Site, and includes a spectacular eighteenth-century deer park and landscaped gardens.
Although Studley Royal is primarily a pheasant shoot, some partridges are released where the terrain allows. There are three separate days shooting across four thousand acres, with drives in the Abbey Grounds taking place on Fridays.
There is usually a maximum of nine Guns per shoot, and although the format is tailored to individual shoot days. We cater for Single Guns and Teams.
The Shoot rears it's own Birds from Layers, and incubates and hatches in house.
Hospitality
Studley Royal is located only 20 minutes north of the beautiful spa town of Harrogate, which has a wealth of excellent restaurants, bars, hotels and shops. We are happy to provide personal recommendations about the best places to stay, eat and relax.
Topography
Primarily a Pheasant Shoot, Studley Royal features diverse drives amongst wooded terrain and deep valleys, with the River Skell flowing through the centre of it all.
About the hosts
The Shoot was purchased by the Fenton family in 1971, and is now run by Julian Fenton.

One of my first driven pheasant shoots and I can honestly say it was everything I hoped for and more, the birds were fantastic, the food was divine and the whole day was laid back. Julian and team at Studley royal certainly know how to create a memorable day in the field! this was my second day on the shoot and it was an abbey day which is just stunning to shoot with the abbey as a back drop is incredible. the team presented sport for all skill levels so everyone gets the shooting that suits them. the beating team do a remarkable job of supplying all the guns with sport on every drive, the drives are long and the the birds keep coming! every peg was firm and level making for very comfortable shooting we travelled around the estate in our own vehicles, catering is very good nice to be served game on a shoot day! will certainly be returning!
