Castle Howard is well known as one of the finest historic houses in England, set amidst approx. 8,000 acres of rolling landscape in the Howardian Hills Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. Historically, Castle Howard was a wild bird shoot averaging 80-100 bird days. However, under new management the shoot has recently been transformed into a prolific pheasant shoot offering 200 - 250 bird days. Whilst not a high bird shoot (although the Head Hag drive is well up there), it is capable of showing testing Pheasants in a stunning setting. It really has to be seen (and shot) to be appreciated what a wonderful sporting experiences the Castle Howard shoot provides
Birds are released throughout the shoot ground which contains a mixture of specific game crops and managed woodlands producing variety on the day. Unlike any other shoot Castle Howard has a number of monuments, designed as part of the original landscape plan by Vanburgh and Hawksmoor, which enhance this already picturesque landscape. There are not many places where you can shoot with a Pyramid as a backdrop!
Teams of 8 or 9 guns can enjoy full hospitality, including delicious lunches provided either by the Estate's own chef or alternatively at a traditional Inn located on the Estate.
Castle Howard is the ultimate location for those teams wishing to experience traditional English game shooting at its best on a spectacular historic estate.
