Shadwell Shoot

Our shoot lodge for the 200 bird days is purpose built and provides comfortable surroundings with a dining table that can seat up to 22 people. Here we serve both elevenses and an excellent post shoot lunch created by our chef Florin Stoian.

The 100 bird days are based at another of our lodges. In name, it is the Beaters Hut, but is by no means a 'hut' and houses a most magnificent wall mounted stag’s head.

Our shoot day packages include catering and drinks for 10, with extra guests welcome at an additional cost. With plenty of pheasant, partridge and venison to hand, game is an essential part of our shoot day menus including fresh baked pheasant and pork sausage rolls at elevenses.

With prior notice, we will happily adjust our menus for guests with special dietary requirements.

Shadwell estate offers good Norfolk shooting with high hedges and shelter belts across the Breckland.

Over recent decades the shoot has received significant investment and, with its natural undulations and features including woodland and heathland, offers an exciting Norfolk shoot day.

We place much importance on the conservation of the visiting migratory Stone Curlew and the year round Common Curlew population. Our nature reserve at Brettenham Heath is run in partnership with Natural England and is a key area for the successful spring nesting for these birds.

On the day you will be welcomed by Head Keeper, Robert Wingrove, and Shoot Manager, Mandy Forber, who have taken care of things, since Shadwell opened its doors. Robert spent his childhood living on the estate, and has been employed at Shadwell for most of his working life. Completing the Shadwell team are Game Keepers Matthew Boyd and James Pettitt, and of course our invaluable beaters and pickers up. At the shoot lodge Mandy is assisted by Miranda Caley, who also takes care of the elevenses baking.

Shadwell estate is located just off the A11 at Thetford in Norfolk. London is just 2 hours (90 miles) by car, or can be reached by train, from Thetford station. Stansted Airport is on this same route, and is just 55 miles from Thetford. Trains from Thetford also go to Stansted airport.
