Lexham is a 4,400-acre estate situated in the upper Nar Valley of West Norfolk between Castle Acre and Litcham and centred round the Hall with its 18th Century landscaped Park and historic woodlands.
The landscape is particularly attractive, being more rolling and hilly country than is normal in most of Norfolk. Much effort has been put into using the topography to the best advantage, producing excellent sport with birds flying at heights not often seen on Norfolk shoots. One Keeper is employed.
Shoots are hosted by Neil, Anthea, and Venetia Foster. Apart from managing the Estate, Neil is a past High Sheriff of Norfolk and Anthea is a former County Organiser for the National Gardens Scheme. Venetia, their daughter, has recently returned from London to start running the estate. The shoot is run as a family day (3 private and 8 let days). We aim for 200 bird days +/- 10% and charge £10,022 (£41.76 per bird) +VAT per day for a party of 8 guns. We do not sell individual guns. The price includes elevenses, a traditional hot lunch and afternoon tea at the owners’ house and transport in a custom-made shooting wagon. Tipping the keeper is the responsibility of the individual guns.
We meet at the back of the Hall and move off promptly after coffee, at 0930.
If required, hotels and B&Bs' can be recommended.
Some extracts from thank you letters :
"Lexham is very special. not many places have so many lovely drives, but importantly make the day so good for one and all - even my badly behaved dog disappearing in the final drive"
"Lexham never fails to produce sport and hospitality of the highest quality and Thursday was, even by your very high standards, quite extraordinary"
"absolutely perfect day with really fun, high curling pheasants at every drive - and some extraordinary ones. But then you have one of the very best bits of country in Norfolk and you do it all beautifully. Very special"
"the warm and generous hospitality made a great impression on our guests"
"Lexham always seems to produce some of the best birds one ever has to face"
"marvelously challenging birds, displayed brilliantly by the skilled and quiet beaters orchestrated by your evidently expert keeper"
"presentation of the birds as ever faultless"
"we saw some terrific birds: I imagine that you feed the Lexham pheasants with a mixture of Red Bull, curry powder and gun powder"
"you provided extraordinary birds to all the guns, in a very direct manner. The guns took up the challenge of the high birds with some success; everyone truly enjoyed every aspect of the day"
"Lexham is such a pretty place and it was a joy to stride around the golden Nar Valley: it was a delight to see the house from so many angles"
"what a fabulous day we had. The scenery and surroundings are beautiful: the gentle and discreet organisation of the day along wit a most enjoyable and delicious lunch"
