The Cranmer Estate shoot has been family run since the early 50's by the Pointer family from their family farm , Manor Farm, Sculthorpe . The shoot covers 1,500 acres of land and 100 acres of woodland over 3 farms, mostly north of the A148 between Fakenham and Burnham Market. There are 17 partridge drives with variable styles of shooting, from standing behind hedges, shooting the traditional way or standing in the lows with higher game. The estate also has 10 woodland drives in what was the original parkland around Cranmer Hall, for pheasants which are shot mid November onwards. Pheasants are shot from the game covers from the beginning of the season. The bag is 250/day with a 10% overage/underage allowance. 4 days available in October 2023, 1 in November and 1 in January 2024
Hospitality
We pride ourselves on our hospitality and try to cater to most needs on and off the shooting field. The area has a plethora of superb restaurants if staying in the vacinity, we also have 19 bedrooms amongst our 4 holiday rental called Piggyback Barns.
Topography
The shoot is on the edge of the River Wensum Valley, so the land slopes down nearer the river with small valleys further away. Most fields have mature tall hedges around them, some wetlands in the woods and nearer the river.
Conservation Efforts
All 3 farms have been in steward scheme back as far as 1997, when a lot of new hedgerows were planted. Grass margins alongside all the ditches and some next to the woods. Extensive wildbird and insect areas interspersed with floristically enhanced margins.
About the hosts
Tony Pointer, the host, farmer, contract farmer and owner of Piggyback Barns, loves enterntaining the guests along with his dedicated band of helpers, so that the day runs smoothly and the guest leave fully satisfied with their day.
