Upperwood Estate

The Upperwood estate covers 5,000 acres in the Pennines, most of the ground covers Saddleworth moor where the grouse shooting takes place. The grouse shooting days are all driven to standing guns in butts with an average bag being 50-100 brace. The ground is all above 1200 ft running up to 1600 ft that makes the birds fast and furious as they use the valleys an the wind to there own advantage.

All pheasant and grouse days can be catered for. There are local B&B's that are more then willing to put teams of guns up for the night if any party wants to stay the night before can be arranged.

The rest of the shooting ground is on the hillsides where the pheasant and partridge lie. In the heart of the shoot is a two hundred acre pine and larch forest, set on the side of the mountains where the birds settle on bracken bankings up onto the surrounding moor. Pheasant and partridge drives are not for the faint-hearted, as time and time again, at the end of the day, the guns tell us how the birds are some of the highest they've ever seen.

An average kill rate on the high drives will be 6 to 1 upwards and that's with experienced guns (or so they say). The shoot has red-legged partridge released all over the moor fringes that fly over the valleys high and fast. An average day would be 200-250 with room to shoot up to 400 double gunned.

There are also reservoirs and ponds that hold ducks so duck shooting and flighting can be arranged also. All the shooting days are a friendly day out with everyone there to enjoy the day. Any interest in any shooting, don't hesitate to get in touch.

The nearest airport is Manchester, which is 22 miles away, and an easy journey of around 30-40 mins. The local train stops off in the village below (Greenfield) around 4 miles away, with transpennine trains running from Manchester Victoria to Huddersfield central on an hourly basis.
