Barbon Manor Estate is a fabulous partridge and pheasant shoot, set in ancient woodland and on upland fell in the beautiful Barbondale valley. Barbon is nestled between the Lake District National Park and the Yorkshire Dales National Park at the three county boundary, on the side of the Lune Valley near Kirkby Lonsdale. The shoot is privately owned and let day availability is normally very limited with only a small number of days being offered to the wider shooting community. The shoot has established a reputation for producing some extraordinary birds, possibly the highest partridge in the north of England.
The shoot day venue is Barbon Manor, built in 1863 by E. M. Barry as a shooting lodge for Baron Shuttleworth. Barry, also responsible for the Opera House in Covent Garden built the manor in the style of a French Chateaux, the spectacular four story building is set in 500 acres of parkland and woodland, with the whole estate extending to some 4,500 acres.
Barbon Manor Estate prides itself on providing a first class shoot day experience, not only the quality of the birds, but also excellent hospitality, free flowing wine, great food, friendly, engaging staff and a very personal touch with the shoot owners hosting the day themselves.
Let days are typically 300 birds, although the estate can accommodate 250 to 500 bird days by arrangement.
Hospitality
The manor is the perfect shoot day hospitality venue, built in 1863 as shooting lodge, it lends itself to accommodating the needs of a shooting team. Recently refurbished, the manor has a large drawing room with floor to ceiling windows allowing guests a full view of the surrounding estate and the Lune Valley and a fabulous semi-circular dinning room which can hold groups of up to sixteen for lunch. None shooting guests are very welcome to join the guns for lunch.
Topography
Barbon Manor Estate benefits from quite outstanding natural topography, with the glaciated Barbondale Valley providing spectacular relief, the valley sides rising to almost 1500 feet at their highest point at Calf Top. Guns are pegged out for partridge days on the valley floor along Barbon Beck, with the highest birds lifting from scree and heather beds near the top.
The extensive woodland on the estate is set on slightly more gentle terrain, but steep ground and high birds are still the main feature of pheasant shooting at Barbon Manor.
The views of the Lune Valley from the top of the park are amazing, on a clear day you can see for twenty miles.

Mr. Julian Owen
A truly wonderful day’s shooting in the most breathtaking countryside. The partridge were plentiful and some of the tallest and most testing I have ever experienced. Many thanks to all involved in the day but most especially Kevin & Kai whose hospitality is second to none. A day I will never forget.
