Location
Situated in a country coastal location, Altcar Estate can offer a wide variety of traditional game including partridge and pheasant days for individual let days, full week shooting or for short shoot breaks. The estate is set amongst 3000 acres of farmland, woodland and cover crops, with a topography that is perfect for fast partridge, pheasant and wild goose flighting.
Main driven shoot days include an optional and tailored catering package - breakfast, elevenses, 2 course gourmet lunch and after shoot refreshments, all served in our private log shoot lodge located in the heart of the estate.
Quarry
Mixed bag days consist of mainly pheasant, partridge along with the possibility of snipe, woodcock and widgeon. Typical sized days go from 125, 150, 200 to 250+ if required.

We have a number of individual partridge and mixed bird days, please contact us for available dates for the 2023/24 season.
Full Week and Short Break Shooting Packages
We can put together a bespoke package for those who wish to shoot a full week or attend for a short shooting break. The Altcar Estate can recommend local, luxury country hotels that are situated close to the estate to make your stay comfortable, opulent and unforgettable.
Duck and Goose Flights
The Altcar Estate can provide morning, evening and 'under the moon' duck and goose flights as it is situated on centrally on a main migratory path for pink footed geese, with some canadas and greylags that enjoy feeding on the arable Altcar land.
Simulated Game at Altcar Estate
Altcar Estate now offers simulated game days, starting April Spring/Summer 2023. The day will consist of 6 drives that simulate grouse, high pheasant, partridge, duck flush and miscellaneous quarry. Catering is included on the day (breakfast & lunch). Gun bus will take guns to the drives.
Guns are teamed into groups of 4 - we can cater for either 16 to 24 guns on the day. Cartridges are not provided.
Simulated Game - Gold Days
Our premium days, these include full hospitality from our private lodge - guns will arrive in the morning to a full cooked English breakfast, and will have elevenses (champagne, sloe gin & light bites) out in the field. After the first 4 drives are complete, we return to the shoot lodge for a 3 course gourmet lunch with wine. After the last two drives, guns return to the lodge to relax with after shoot refreshments to await the teams scores.
Simulated Game - Silver Days
These days are our standard days where we offer 6 simulated game drives. A standard breakfast and lunch are included.
Hospitality
With our own fully equipped and catered shoot lodge, we are able to tailor hospitality packages to suit individual needs. As far as possible we use locally sourced ingredients and produce and always try to include our game on our menu.
Topography
Carefully managed woodland, ponds and cover crops allow us to deliver fantastic mixed bird drives across the estate. We also have several dedicated flighting ponds for duck drives. Walking to peg from the gun bus is straightforward with little difficulty underfoot.
About the hosts
Our gamekeeper Sam has been working on the estate for over 40 years. His vast experience in the industry, plus his unrivalled knowledge of the estate layout means that all guns will enjoy an incredible day out.
The team at Altcar understand the important elements to make a good shoot outstanding. Game shooting experience combined, the individual members have shot and hunted game birds and game in the UK, Scotland, USA, Africa, Argentina and elsewhere. Therefore we want to combine all the outstanding factors of driven game and include them into the best shooting experience possible. Altcar Estate is owned and ran by Shotwick Shooting.

We have shot Altcar many times over the years (usually shooting 3 to 4 days per season). The land may be flat but the shoot can show some spectacular and challenging flat land birds. The keeper is a master at using the wind (which there is usually enough of give the Estates coastal location) to present challenging, curling and fast birds over the line of guns.

I have been lucky enough to shoot on the Altcar estate for a number of years. the days are always very well put on and every drive is well thought out by head keeper Sam Bell. His team of beaters and pickers up are second to none and a lot of "local celebrities "tend to join the beating line. the presentation of high partridge and pheasant is exceptional. The shooting lodge and catering are the best I have come across. You cannot look much further for a days shooting if you enjoy well presented birds, good company and beautiful surroundings. See you all next season.

Altcar on a windy day beats any where else in this country. My son in law runs a shoot in Cumbria and after a boundary day said that's what shooting should be like. A great day in the field. There seems to be a trend of higher and higher bird shoots. where guns talk of firing lots of lead into the sky at dots. Come to Altcar on a windy day it will put manners on anyone. Sam knows how to alter drives if the weather changes during the day the beaters are all long standing and loyal to the shoot. I think the promatic team are doing a great job, and to me Altcar holds some very special moments in my life black sheds peg 6 north west wind I'll take that moment to the grave. Thanks Sam.

I have shot at Altcar half a dozen times over the past 2 seasons and have always had a great day. They are able to produce extremely fast partridges (particularly when the wind blows) getting the birds up from some distance away so they come over the guns like bullets. There is always plenty of birds about so 'getting the bag' is never a worry. The day is run by the experienced Sam Bell (Keeper) who is able to handle the day without fuss. Plenty of regular guns on the days I have been on who have been a real pleasure to spend the day with. All in all Altcar is a proper shoot and as a single gun I would recommend it to anyone.
